My galaxy s5 has a major overheating problem and battery drain issue.

So I've had my s5 since may and starting from September, my s5 has been overheating like crazy. Like my s5 gets so hot that my palms starts to hurt from the massive heat and i dont what is causing this. also, it causes to drain my battery like crazy which causes my phone to die within noon. should i replace my battery if it helps? whats wrong with my phone? the phone gets so hot that i have to take out the battery to cool it down.

Welcome to Android Central! There are two common things to consider:

1. There's a corrupt file on the SD card, and the device is heating up because the system's Media Scanner is working overtime, because it's hung up on that corrupt file. Try unmounting the SD card in Settings>Storage, removing it, and then rebooting. Use the phone for a while without the SD card and see if it still heats up.

2. The battery may be failing, which can cause overheating. Try a new battery. You can confirm a failing battery by removing it, laying it flat on a table, and spinning it. If it spins freely, the battery is bulging in the middle, which is a bad sign. But lack of spin doesn't rule out battery failure, so it's still worth trying a new one.
