Should I get Galaxy S3 or Galaxy Note 2?

Given the lack of activity for the past few days, I'm wondering if any of you have caught the latest news regarding the Note 2?

Samsung announced the new phablet (I think that's a funny, as in humorous, word) today in Germany, and it was revealed that it will come with Jelly Bean, 2 GB RAM, a 1.6 GHz quad-core CPU (not sure if that'll stay the same for U.S. versions), Smart Stay, and a smarter S Pen. And it's said that the display is 5.5".

The battery will be almost as huge as the Droid Razr Maxx: 3100 mAh.

To make things better, Samsung said that the phone will be released to the U.S. by the end of this year.

Take a look at Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - Smartphones - CNET Reviews and Samsung Updates Galaxy Note Phablet - Personal-tech/smart-phones - Smart Phones - BYTE for the sources of this information.

While I'm skeptical about that 5.5" (I'll have to actually get my hands on one to see if I want something that big), it seems that the Note 2 will in fact come with the same features as the S3 with more features specific to this phablet.

Now, more than ever, I really want 12/31 to get here fast.

I wish they would have packed the power they included in the galaxy note 2 with the galaxy s3

I think the way it works now is that Samsung releases a flagship model phone and a few months after that releases an improved version of the flagship phone. In essence, I think that the Galaxy Note 2 is a Galaxy S3 with a bigger screen and battery, beefier internals, and some more features specific to the phablet.

Dare I mention Apple in the Android world? The Galaxy S3 vs. the announced Galaxy Note 2 is analogous to the relationship with the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. The 4S is a 4 with Siri and better specs.

Will the note 2 be the first quadcore LTE phone? I haven't seen LTE mentioned in all the coverage but I do have a hard time paying attention.

I don't think so qualcom is working on a new sort of all in one chip to bypass the current restrictions but no the current late chips don't play well with a quad core cpu. International doesn't have lte that's why they can have quad cores in their devices.

The Galaxy Note 2 is the Note 1 on steroids.
The Galaxy 3 is the Galaxy 2 on steroids.

In terms of what Apple did, little incremental updates making their customers think they got a super phone when, IMO, they didn't.

Get the Note 2

As I am doing research on this phone, I am rethinking my options. The Note 2 is not something to just pass on, as it turned out while doing the research. The only thing holding me back from immediately choosing the Note 2 without second thoughts is the size of the phone. All other factors point to encouraging the decision of getting the Note 2 instead of the Galaxy S3:

1. The phone has a quad-core 1.6 GHz CPU with 2 GB RAM, though I'm not sure the quad-core CPU will stick with the U.S. models.

2. It has a 3100 mAh battery, which means that it'll probably get as much battery life as the Droid Razr Maxx. Battery life is something I've had problems with on my Infuse. A 1750 mAh battery just doesn't cut it for me.

3. The phone comes with S Pen, which can be used to take notes during a phone call or any other time. This leads to increased productivity.

4. Like the original Note, it is probably going to be sold internationally. This could mean that the Galaxy Note line of phones are in fact flagships.

5. It comes with JB. Project Butter will make the Infuse look like a snail.

6. Despite my reluctance to get a phablet as my next phone due to its massive size, I do have to admit that a bigger screen size does have its advantages: you have more room to type, read text, look at photos, and watch videos.

Regarding #2, for any of you who happen to have the original Galaxy Note, which has a 2500 mAh battery, how is the battery life? How long can you go on a 100% battery?

The original note is an amazing device, to be honest i prefer the size of the original. The note 2 looks like a stretched S3 somewhat.. some may disagree. I think the slight change in dimensions, only a few millimeters in comparison to the original gives it a narrow profile and visually smaller. I too have had second thoughts regarding the size of the Note before i made the decision to buy the device. But after a few hours with the phone, i have no regrets.I've never had problems carrying the Note, it fits fine in my pockets. You may get a couple people looking at you when you do use the phone, especially while on a call (no handsfree). Battery life is approximately 8-9hours for me. Seems to be the average most users are getting as well. Hope this helps!

My friend has a Note & said the Note 2 looks great, but he has had trouble with his phone cause Samsung haven't fixed the kernal because he has the brickbug fault on his device which is also something to do with the microchip used on the phone board & if like most people you want to root you may face a likely chance of fully bricking this device! So if the Note2 is the same that's not good for you & all the flashahollics out there or anyone who wants to root it???? I have a Galaxy S3 & I can only say good things about it, prefer it over the iPhone, Note & the HTC One X, its superfast, good camera, bright screen, long battery life (even on custom roms), great custom roms, sim unlocks. You make your own choice though.... but I know what I'd rather use

I have an original GSM note on straight talk. With auto brightness 3g on all day and auto sync is off but background data is on I get about 2.5-3 hours of screen on time that's 100%-15%. Ita pretty close to the same as other phones I've had like the razr, evo 3d, and GSM galaxy nexus.

I'm thinking with just an incremental screen size upgrade (.2 inches) and the big difference in battery mah (2500 vs 3100) u should be getting probably another 30mins-1 hour of screen on time.although that will also rely a lot on what processor we get.

@dean Please clarify. Are you saying your friend bricked his phone and it's Samsungs fault?
