should I install 5.1.1 upgrade

I recently started using the nexus 7 4.1. This is my first tab so not really sure what I'm doing. First time I turned it on, it was offering an upgrade to 5.1.1. I have downloaded it but not yet installed as I have been reading some not so good reviews. Do I have to install or can I remove what I have downloaded. Or do you think I should go ahead and install?

Why are you guys saying not to do it?

Re: should I install 5.1.1 upgrade

It's been problematic - slowed way down from previous versions, and random crashes in standard apps.

Re: should I install 5.1.1 upgrade

Mine was literally unusable until I went back to KitKat. Now it may have been due to all of the incremental upgrades from jelly bean to lollipop, but it's working OK on 4.4 so I am hesitant to let lollipop back in.

I have gone back to Android 4.4.4 since my device became unusable (slow!!!) after upgrading to Android 5.0 and I couldn't notice any improvement with the incremental updates from Android 5.

What procedure did you use to go back to 4.4.4?

By following the procedure described on cultofandroid.com/63876/install-android-4-4-3-nexus-5-nexus-4-nexus-7/
I just downloaded 4-4-4 instead of 4-4-3 from developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Stay away from Lollipop.. Ruined the N7 2012 entirely. My workable tablet is now garbage

Completely unusable since upgrading to 5 (and even worse as it made its way to 5.1.1). Hoping its simple to downgrade...

Simple to downgrade through the Nexus Root Toolkit.

If you're into custom roms. XenonHD is a great custom rom that runs 5.1.1. Even still, I've noticed lag from time to time and got sick of guessing which settings to tweak. I switched to OmniRom 4.4.4 and my Nexus 7 2012 is blazing now. (The developer even includes the latest Nexus security updates whenever possible.)
