Should I trade my HP Touchpad in for a Nexus 7?

My main concerns are:

1. Screen size (I use my Touchpad to play my P90X videos while I get my swole on.)

2. Storage (I've got 25gb of movies on my Touchpad.)

Can anyone make a compelling case for me to make the switch?

Screen size of the n7 is perfect for me. YouTube and actual movies look awesome. The device in general is fantastic. It "feels right" when you hold it, and while I've never used an HP touchpad, I somehow doubt it's as attractive a package as the N7. The thing that really sold me too was 4.1JB stock android, which other devices can't match even if they do well w hardware. JB is seriously substantially better than ICS, especially in the small things that you might not otherwise mention but just start to bug you over time. It's clear that the developers have really put some thought into making android convenient to use. The controls and interface have become a lot more intuitive. Plus the butteriness. Paula Dean would be proud. The point being, JB was a factor that led to my buying this as my very first tablet. I wasn't interested in buying an ICS tablet and maybe one day getting an update (I don't root) if i could just get a JB tablet immediately. I haven't been disappointed.

As for the 25gbs of movies.... yeah I dunno. Not that kind of device I guess. I don't see myself having a problem with storage but you might be dffernt. There's always Google drive and dropbox, but then you'd need to be connected to WiFi to access those. Another possibility is connecting a USB OTG, but then you've got "things" attached to this awesome self contained unit, which sort of detracts from its cool factor.

Other than that i don't know what to tell you. It has basically turned my phone into just a device that makes phone calls, since anything I did on that I just do on this now. I destroyed my laptop a few weeks ago (swimming pool incident, don't ask) but ive barely noticed.

Check out the N7, if you like it and want it, buy it.

Do not bother with trading, you probably won't get much for your Touchpad, so might as well keep it!

If your primary use is watching videos, you should keep the Touchpad. If you want more, the Nexus 7 is a no brainer. Keep in mind the Touchpad has WebOS and the Nexus has Android 4.1. I doubt any of your apps will transfer. On the plus side, Google Play has many good free apps and low cost paid apps. Don't hinge your decision on the Touchpad. You can check on eBay to see what they are selling for. Just move on!

Given your concerns I would say no. If having lots of local memory is important to the Nexus seven is not the device you're looking for.

For me the 7 inch screen is perfect for watching television and movies, makes it very light and I can read books easily, and makes it incredibly portable. But I also don't carry 25 GB of movies around with me. I only watch movies and stuff at home where I store it on my home media server and stream it over Wi-Fi, and the books I store on it don't take up much space.

I did get the 16 GB model so I can carry some movies and television around with me if I choose to. But if your minimum requirement is to carry 25 gigs of movies around you are not going to be able to do it. So if you're interested in a Nexus seven you will have to compromise on that and only carry around what you intend to watch.

To judge the screen size simply going to any local electronics store and try out any 7 inch tablet. The Nexus has a very beautiful screen. However it is just a 7 inch screen and you can try out any screen at 7 inches to get an idea of the size.

You should have dumped that fire sale POS a long time ago like i did..

lol this.

I got one during the firesale as well. Thought I loved it. I really didn't mind WebOS to be honest. But the lack of apps just killed me. Put Android on it and traded it online while it was still "hot"

Got an older macbook for it. But the macbook still is in great shape and works great.

I still love my HP Touchpad with ICS and not letting it go for anything besides it only costs me $150. You can keep both and have the best of both worlds. I don't see the need to let go of your Touchpad.

I just sold mine to pay for my N7. It really only got used by the kids since we've got an ipad as well.

When I put ICS on mine awhile back it was still I believe in early beta and sucked ballz. buttons didn't work and it would crash. I only wanted it for Netflix lol.

I'm glad to hear its running better now. Maybe I should of held onto mine for fun.

Put ICS on the Touchpad;

How To Install Android Ice Cream Sandwich On The HP TouchPad In Minutes

I'm planning on that for mine. I love the Touchpad. And I'm sorry it died without a fair chance. This supposedly allows you to run WebOS and Android on the same machine.

That looks like an old tutorial. Go to rootzwiki.com for instructions on how to install the latest ICS Nightlies as they have pretty much have all bugs ironed out. Also check out the Reverend Kyle YouTube channel on step by step videos on how to install ICS on the TP.

I love webos, or rather loved webos. To me it was the perfect OS. But since its death and HP revealing that open source webos won't support and existing devices, why keep it? Can u tether? Then maybe the cloud is for u. But do u really use 25gb of video on a daily? If its for home use, use your WiFi. I love my nexus 7, and it only seems to be getting better.

I'm keeping the touch pad. Traded in my a500 to get the Nexus 7. Best of both

I was one of the "lucky" ones unable to get a Touchpad. But then I made the mistake of getting a Blackberry Playbook. It was a great piece of hardware, a top notch OS, but it had few apps and no future. I sold it to a military person who will likely get more enjoyment out of it than I will. The Playbook is still popular in Europe.
The Nexus 7 has exceeded my expectations. I have all my e-books, music, and Android apps from Amazon plus some from Google Play. I think it has just the right amount of hardware.

Yeah, I just kept my TouchPad. It's kinda nice to have access to two different screen sizes. Plus, I like webOS too much to give it up completely.

I have P90x/Insanity workouts on my Samsung Fascinate phone when I travel. That screen is half the size of the N7 and it does the trick. Storage will be an issue, but I only keep the ones I want for the week loaded. Don't need very hi-res videos for workouts - cut the resolution way down to keep the files smaller.
