Should I update my Verizon S5 to Marshmallow?

I've looked for a definitive answer to updating from Lollypop, or not, but I have not found one. There do not seem to be posts about long term use with Marshmallow. I held off at the beginning because of the initial problems. Is it safe now?
I plan (hope) to keep the phone for awhile, and do not want to root/hack it (but I can). I am a little concerned about security if I do not update the system.
Also, is there a way to stop the requests to upgrade?

My T-Mobile S5 moved up to Marshmallow, and I found it an entirely positive experience. Not earth shaking, but the phone felt peppier and more capable. Then I traded it in for a GS7 Edge and haven't missed it a bit...

But yeah, I don't think you'll regret it. If so, you will have to root to roll back to whatever the heck they called the version before MM.
