should I update rooted phone ?

It has been a while since I have messed with this phone. I remember spending a lot of time dialing it in. It is rooted but no custom ROMS. I had bootstrap on it but did not like it.

The phone seems slower than it used to be thus my consideration of updating it.

So should I update to newest firmware ?

If so wheere do i start? I do not care about saving anything on this. But I suppose I need to de-root it, then upgrade then ideally re-root it ?
