should I upgrade to Lollipop from 4.4.4?

The white, at least for me, means I can turn my screen down way, way low and it is still bright enough for me to see. I end up saving even more battery with my screen so low.

i dont like the look of lollipop, like someone said, its too much white. the messages look horrible with the att orange (and im on tmobile) so i just switched to textra. i dont like pulling the notification screen down and it just fades the wallpaper instead of it being black. i dont like how milk app looks different on the lock screen. i dont like the touch thing where its like tapping water. i dont like how the calendar dates are circled instead of the whole day box being highlighted. i hate change, and i hate lollipop. i got used to kitkat after having gingerbread for 3 years. now 2 months into kitkat and i have lollipop.

my weather widget looks different and i hate that, now i cant find a widget i like. i dont like the gray notification bar when im on the internet (and i love gray). i liked the darkness of gingerbread and the sporadic darkness of kitkat, its just too much brightness now.

Reason to update :-
1) Some new features.

Reasons not to update :-
1) Some features removed.
2) I'm not willing to play Russian Roulette with my Note 4.
3) I don't like the new material design UI that comes with Lollipop.
- White replacing black is a terrible idea for your eyes and your battery life.
- Soooooo much whitespace (without the option to reduce it) around information is annoying.
- The removal of borders for clickable ('pressable'?) buttons and text entry areas makes navigation and page usage less clear and therefore slower.
- The multi-app screen becomes littered with screens making it hard to find the background app you're trying to return to.
4) Fewer and fewer settings are made available with each Google app update. Are Google getting lazy? If I wanted a dumbed down phone I'd get an iPhone.

Complaints about the update to Calendar (about 6 months ago) forced Google to re-introduced a lot of the features it took out and to reduce the whitespace padding around text that it had forced on everyone. You'd think they'd realise that this will be annoying all the same people in other apps and in the Lollipop UI in general. I guess I'll skip Lollipop completely, but the daily update requests on the phone are getting annoying. Why can't I switch the reminders off for a week? It feels like Google are turning into Microsoft and Lollipop is their Vista and Windows 8 rolled into one.
Go into application settings, software update, I believe I cleared the cache first then I turned it off. All the notifications are gone.

Samsung uses an Amoled display. Amoled displays use more power (much more) to display white than to display black. (Black basically takes no power - it's just "off".) That alone is reason for me to not update to a phone with tons of white on the screen.

My other reason for not updating (excuse me while I finish yawning) is that, aside from the new look, Lollipop doesn't actually offer anything more than "it was time for a new version, so we came out with one". 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 was a MAJOR fix. 4.4.4 to 5 is lipstick on a pig (both the lipstick and the pig are new).

I totally agree with Rukbat !!

Thanks, I've unticked "Auto update" in "Software updates" now.

It feels such a shame. This is the first Android update ever that I've not wanted. I was an application developer for over a decade and Material Design breaks so many of the rules on making screens intuitive that I just look forward to the backlash in a couple of years, when the UI will slowly return to being clear again. Using the terms like "uncluttered" and "clean" to market something sound great in theory. The thing is they can both be replaced with "sparse" and "bland" with regard to Lollipop, but I'm guessing that wouldn't sell it so well. LOL

Thanks again.

Sorry I couldn't find application setting. Is it in General tab? Can you please show a screen shot? Not sure if at&t phone can do this. Thx

Update: found it, but it grayed out and doesn't allow to be disabled :(

I got a notification on my Samsung note 3 saying that Android Lollipop version is available for upgrade. However, it also says that upgrading will decrease my available phone memory by a minimum of 950 MB. Are they talking about the RAM or the in-device storage space? It’s a bit scary for me if they are talking about RAM :( ..
