Should WIFI be connected full time, or just as needed?

Hey folks, just purchased a Tag Heuer Connected. I am so impressed with this watch, but have a question.

I have WiFi set to Auto. I use it with an iPhone. Typically in the connection area, it’s usually connected full time with my phone with unless I stop running WearOS app, then it loses the connection altogether. The WiFi only seems to engage when I connecting to the Play Store, use translate, or if I out my iPhone in airplane mode.

Is WiFi supposed to connect on an as needed basis, or should it be connected full time?

I appreciate any feedback, thank you.

I moved this from the general Wear OS forum to the Wear OS for iPhone forum, since there could be some differences in how the watch works with iOS compared with Android.

As far as I can tell, my various Wear OS watches connect to wi-fi when needed if they're not connected to the phone, but I've never done a formal test.

Thank you. I think you answered my question. The Apple Watch is primarily connected to WiFi first, when out of WiFi range, it uses the Bluetooth. This one is opposite, which makes sense from a battery saving perspective.
