Nice. Glad to see the auto processing has improved. If you would've went into manual mode you could've gotten even better pics than these already good ones. Very promising for LG.

And you have such great photos as it is man. I'm in the same boat as you actually. The Pixel 2 camera is just so good its crazy but I'm also torn at the thought of letting the camera do all the work for me as well. I really love manual controls but Google's processing and front facing camera are so good I wonder if I would be satisfied with just having automatically great photos in all light conditions. The only thing that I will definitely not switch until they fix is the audio mics for video. They have a weird distortion to them that Google is aware of. But then the V30 has that beautiful manual mode with Haiti feedback when toggling the dials and point zoom and Cinemode. The audio capture blows everything else away. And f/1.9 wife angle lens at 13mp. I might just wait for the Galaxy S9 which is the perfect compromise between both. Great auto and manual mode when you want it.

I forgot how close we are to the release of the S9. I had the S3 and S5 so it would be interesting to see the changes. These recent phone cameras upgrades have been outstanding that I no longer need to carry a DSLR. Thanks for the feedback!
Bougainvillea blooming a few days ago.. Auto and just did a bit of cropping.
Before cropping, I did zoom in. That is why this is a bit pixelated.
UPDATE: I looked at the pix on the phone vs what got attached and what a difference. The image looks sadly washed out on the AC website. Bummer.

Hopefully, this image will be more truthful as to how beautiful (to me) the camera pix are... As well as the flowers on our property.

First time using the camera. I was at a concert and thought black and white would be an awesome pic. Used the amazing filter option. You can see what the different filters will look like before taking the picture. Quick tip: You will need to turn off the option you used or it will continue to take other pictures using that filter selection.The filters aren't in any particular order. So just an FYI None is in the center of the selections. This is something I would change because it's a bit of a hassle. I would change it to selection by shot. I am also including a grid shot. You can select position and you take the pictures! It's a little blurry because I was moving around a lot and just wasn't used to the camera yet. Also attaching the most wonderful picture of all. Our grandbaby reunited with her mommy (our daughter).

So I've learned that the LG camera is useless in auto mode. I mean, gosh, when compared to the Google camera it's embarrassingly bad. So, what I do is I use the Google one when I just want a photo now, but if I'm out and about and taking my time, I switch over to the LG camera and it's multitude of options and settings.
It's allowed me to snap some pretty snazzy photos...
This photo was taken with the HDR+ function on the Pixel 2 camera app. It came wonderfully and no amount of tweaking in the LG camera would have given me the same detailed result. It'd get close, I bet.
The same is true here. At night, the LG camera produces cold photos that look like garbage unless you spend the time to fiddle with manual settings. The Pixel camera, though, well... It looks good even when using flash.
One last example of how the HDR+ functions works wonders at night and in challenging light situations.
On the flip side, the following photos were all taken after playing around with the LG camera and they cannot be replicated in the Pixel XL 2's camera app.
This cloudy day was a pain but I liked how this tree looked and snapped this lil photo here.
Food mode is fun, I'll admit, but it's slow to focus in restaurants that are dimly lit. Also, it's extremely awkward how the app switches from temperature control to brightness control after tapping to focus. Why not just have the two available as toggle wheels in the app overlay? Anyway, the results usually look great.
Especially here. Things just look crisp and tasty when using food mode!
It's also worth mentioning that the LG front facing camera is pretty good with its HDR function and with night selfies. I use it quite a bit and the wide angle lens makes my selfies awesome. So basically, the Pixel XL 2 camera has no equal for quick yet astoundingly detailed shots day or night but the LG camera excels when you have the time and patience to tweak it into perfection. Oh, and for videos the LG camera has no equal.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the stock camera is useless in auto mode but Google's software processing is superior to LG's processing. I'm getting the same type of results with the Google camera app on my V20 and I'm really quite amazed by how much software makes the difference on the same sensor.
Yeah I suggest googling for "XDA Forums google pixel camera" and checking out the results. I'd be more specific, but that's honestly how I found the download and got the app working on my phone. You'll also need to allow third party installing on your phone through your V30's settings.
Also, I'd like to reiterate that in my usage the V30's automatic camera takes really bad photos. It could be my unit but in auto mode with HDR turned on, the photos come out either cold or bright colors in the shot become white, magically. For example...

Well okay, RaRa85, you're right the LG camera isn't complete garbage in auto mode but the performance is very hit and miss. From the same evening the app managed to capture the sky's color just fine in auto HDR mode in other photos.
But night photos out of the LG camera might as well been taken with a potato. Like most mobile phone cameras, photos are blurry and generally gross to look at.
The Pixel 2 camera app's HDR+ mode is the only mobile camera app where taking night photos is honestly worry-free. With the LG camera app or my old Lumia 950XL or the HTC One M7, taking night photos was always a matter of standing impossibly still and tapping around the screen twenty times to get the damn thing to focus and adjust light properly. The pixel 2 camera app removes that problem especially combined with LG's stellar focusing. The same is true for challenging scenes with lots of light and lots of dark areas. The Pixel camera's HDR+ mode just won't let you down where LG's own app might.
Anyway, my overall point is the LG V30 is best at mobile photography with both the LG camera app and the Pixel camera app. I have em both save to my floating bar so I can quickly choose which to use for the given situation. It's just awesome that there's basically no point of digital compact cameras at this point. Do ya'll remember those? What a time to be alive!
