Hi, just have bought Pixel 6a (in Canada). I tried to sign on my Google account, but without success. I found in forums to use VPN, and it worked. I have signed on my account, updated my software on phone and all Google applications( all was done on WIFI with VPN). But when i switch off VPN, Play Store works, but does not download and update( always pending), Google can not sign on my account. My old phone Xiaomi Redmi works fine on WIFI, but Pixel 6a - does not. My old phone was bought in Ukraine and my Google account was done some 3-4 years ago in Ukraine. Can I somehow fix it please?

On mobile data all works, but i am limited on mobile data unfo. On wifi my Pixel 6a can not sign on Google account without VPN, browser works and other applications. Even Play store works without VPN,but only like searching, but no downloading and updating ( always pending).
I did not try another wifi network.
2 days i am fighting, tried Date&Time to change, tried DNS to change to static, turn of security features, cleaning cache and deleting updates. But after still Google account sign on fails. All our laptops and other smartphones works properly on wifi network. Cant understand what is this?

I assume the wi-fi network you're using is your home network, correct? Do you control the network, or is it a shared network (like in an apartment complex)? It's possible that whoever set up the network also set up some sort of firewall that is interfering with your Google account login.

If you do control the network, then try rebooting the router by unplugging its power for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in.

I made you the owner of the original guest post to make it easier for you to find.

You mentioned to me in a PM that you're on a hotel wi-fi network -- that's probably the issue. Hotel wi-fi networks can sometimes cause issues with connectivity for various reasons, like a firewall, or some kind of incompatible security settings. There may be something specific about the Pixel's security that is causing a compatibility issue when connecting to the hotel wi-fi.

To eliminate the possibility that a 3rd party app might be interfering, see if this problem persists in Safe Mode: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/2852139

@B.Diddy

Safe mod did not help.
I found in internet, that maybe editing "host" file in root folder can help. The problem is that i can not save file after editing as it is locked.
Does anyone know will it help at all?

This what i have inside "host" file(system/etc/host)

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 ip6-localhost

You'll probably need to wait until you're back home if public WiFi doesn't work. Rooting won't make any difference.

Are you going to be in this hotel for a while, or is it just a short stay?

In Settings>Network>Private DNS, is that set to Automatic?

Yes, but i tried different options with DNS. I tried yesterday to connect to another public wifi( at Walmart) and everything was working fine. So its really some problem between my phone and hotel's network, but i can not understand why, if all the other devices work fine? and will it happen again...

One other thing -- open Chrome, go to its settings, then Privacy & Security>Use Secure DNS. Is it set to "Use your current service provider" there? (This is a different setting from the one I asked about previously.) I recall having problems even connecting to the web in a hotel when this was set to a custom DNS (like Google or Cloudflare). Sometimes you have to make sure you're using the service provider's DNS for things to work right.

Make sure your not using any antivirus, Malwarebytes, Ad blockers programs

I tried what you suggested, but nothing has helped. thank you in any case. I ll have to use VPN in cases when Google does not work.

Possible something happening with your account, you tried logging out your Google account on device then go back in?
