Signal Reception?

For me this phone has better reception than any of my previous and my last was the Samsung S3. I don't like Motorola so I can't give you a comparison. Here's how today worked out for me.

All depends on location. I'm in mid Michigan and have no problems at all. Always on 4G unless I travel out to the country which I'll still have 3g

I've had huge problems with my G2, which is a bummer because I really like the rest of the phone. I CONSTANTLY go from 2-3 bars 4G, to 3G to 1 bar 1X to no service what so ever. I don't drop calls once I can get them to go through, but a lot of the time it wont let me send texts or make calls. I think I'm gonna have to trade it on for a Moto X, as I'm sure Verizon isn't going to get the new Nexus, and no one else has good reception where I live (Williamsburg, VA).

I've been on a Galaxy Nexus for a while, so of course I'm super gun shy about another phone that has reception issues. I was on a HTC 8X for a while that had no issues, and my wife just plugs away with her iPhone. Any chance there is some sort of software issue at play here? Seems strange that our Android phones get all confused on which tower to go off of and yet WP and iOS are ok...

I had this same problem. I went and had the SIM CARD replaced and it has been solid 4g since. The Verizon store rep, who happens to be the only Verizon employee I have ever met that is worth a damn, told me to always have the SIM replaced in the store if it comes preloaded in the phone. I would try that before you bail on it.

After 5 years with iPhones, I've switched to Android. I bought a Droid Ultra about a week ago. I brought it back because the battery life it horrendous, and the signal at my house is worse than my husband's Lumia 928. I wanted to exchange it for something else, but the salesman talked me into just trying another Ultra to see if there was something wrong with my first one. While I was waiting for the exchange, I discovered the LG G2. I was very impressed, but when I asked the salesman, he brushed it off and told me he's never sold one. I asked if he knew anything about it, and he told me no. After telling me he didn't know anything about it, he told me it probably gets bad service. Since then, I've read some really great reviews of the phone. I am seriously considering paying the restocking fee and exchanging my Droid for the G2. The only deal breaker for me would be signal reception. I originally went in to buy the Galaxy S4, but went with the Droid Ultra because the salesman told me it gets great reception. I like the Android OS and larger screen size, but the phone just isn't very exciting to me. The LG seems to have everything I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me their experience with signal reception on the G2? I've read a lot of bad things about Samsung's signal reception, but I can't find much on the G2. I found one site that gave it a 9/10 for reception, but I'd like to get some real people's opinions.

Thanks!
Cassie

I came from an IPhone 5 and I think the reception on this phone is better. The signal sucks in my house but I am able to use this phone for a call without dropping it and with the iPhone I couldn't at all.

Appreciate the tip - did that yesterday. Even went so far as doing factory reset with the new SIM. Same result.

For what its worth, tried my second LG G2 this morning for the same result. Tried it out pre-update (no service) and then tried post-update (still no service). I can't recommend this phone based on my experience.

I subbed it out for a Moto X, and so far so good. About double the signal strength that the G2 was getting. And I'm talking -dBu, not just bars on the main screen, etc.

I have had similar issues.. been thru 5 sim cards and 3 of these g2 phones.. Verizon store is clueless.. I wonder if it has something to do with cell tower equip in Hampton roads.. I am in va beach.. how long does it take before ur service comes back? Mine was out for hours...

I have not yet made a decision. I am leaning towards exchanging for the G2 as long as it has the swipe keyboard and good voice controls. I'm waiting on the Verizon rep to text me back to let me know if I can still trade phones. Most of the replies seem to be good in the reception area. The two people who have replied with bad reception seem to be in the Williamsburg, VA area. When I was in Williamburg a couple years ago, no one in my family could get good cell service anywhere, and we had a variety of phones. I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and there aren't a lot of places with excellent cell phone service. I'll let you all know what I end up doing.

I got rid of my G2 this weekend for an HTC one. The signal is twice as good as it was on the g2 and the same as my Note 2 was. I kept losing calls on the g2 which is unacceptable.

I went to in the Verizon store with the intention of exchanging my phone. The first rep I talked to didn't know much about it, but said it had worse battery life and signal than the Droid Ultra. I told him I had read the good things about the battery and signal, and he said it is different where we live because the towers are far apart. I compared the signal strength to my phone in the store, and the LG had a stronger signal, but the rep told me it was only because they had a repeater. He also said the signal would be better than my old iPhone or a S4, but not as good at the Ultra. The second rep I talked to also said she didn't know much about it, but that the signal wasn't as good at the Ultra. The last guy I talked to scared me out of getting the G2. I asked what he knew about the phone, and he told me it was a step below the iPhone in signal quality. The two other reps seemed surprised when I said my husband's Lumia gets better reception that my Ultra. The last guy said "Well, Nokia's have some of the best antennas out there." He told me that I would be stuck with the phone even if it didn't get service at my house unless I wanted to pay full price for a different phone, and that there was no going back so I got scared and left. No one could tell me anything about the voice command capability compared to the Ultra either. I don't know what I'm going to do now. I just really wish there was another Verizon store close to me. There is Best Buy and another independent place, but I don't know how much they can help me.

I can't imagine the Droid Ultra would have better battery life than the G2. The Droid Maxx would of course, but I doubt the Ultra does.

Although I can't say that I know the exact situation with Verizon signal in your area, I think I would trust the opinions and recommendations of the good people on this forum than those of your local VZW store reps, because (a) they're encouraged to push certain phones over others, and (b) many (but not all) store reps from any wireless provider often don't know a whole lot. No offense to any store reps who might frequent these forums--if you're on these forums, you're probably one of the better informed reps anyway!

Cassie, I am not a Verizon rep. But to be honest, there is not one aspect of that Ultra that is on par with the G2. It has a slower processor, a smaller screen on a bigger footprint, a battery 2/3rds the size, and less features. I have had no reception issues but if you are worried about it, get the MAXX. It's a better Motorola choice.

Thank you. I really appreciate everyone's responses. I use my phone for a lot of things, and I think the G2 is more of what I'm looking for. I've also been looking at the Note 2, but I'm very concerned about signal with them being made by Samsung. I usually obsessively research things before I buy anything, not after. This is what happens when someone rushes me into buying something!

The processor might seem slower on paper for the Droid Ultra (and Maxx), but remember that it's their X8 architecture, with 8 total cores, 4 of them dedicated to graphics processing. So the specs might not seem as impressive as other phones, but as reviewers of the Droid series and the Moto X have pointed out, the performance of these phones seems to be excellent.

Some reviews are finding G2 beats the Maxx on battery life, at least on standardized benchmarks that may or may not translate into real life use.

I can't compare G2 signal to the new Motos, but I can say that it blows my old Droid X completely out of the water. I get a strong signal on the G2 where I never had any signal on the Droid X.

I think the real question, though, is how the G2 compares with Motorola phones, since Moto has always been famous for its cell radios.

I live just north of Houston Texas city limits. Wife has a razr maxx, I just purchased the LG G2 and am selling my razr maxx HD. Both droid phones have/had great reception, but the signal strength of the G2 is MUCH better. Everything is MUCH better and more customizable...may take awhile to get through all the settings but that's part of the FUN right???? I did have to upgrade my wireless router's firmware to the latest version to get proper wifi capabilities, but other than that you cannot go wrong with this phone. By FAR the best one available today, bar-none!

Just shows you how different areas behave differently. My HTC One did not have as good reception in my area as the G2.
