With my Moto Droid, I could turn the ringer volume all the way down and take pics without that annoying shutter sound. If I turn it down on my DroidX, the shutter doesn't make sound, but the focusing stills beeps rather loudly. Is there any way around this? Yes, I know, all of the perv reasons, but I just find it annoying. If it can't be changed, so be it.

yeah i miss that from the incredible. i know with the droid when it was rooted people were able to delete the sounds. maybe someone can create an app

Well...you can slightly dampen it by putting a pair of headphones...

It still made noises in silent mode? Huh

In silent mode the shutter sound doesn't go off, but the autofocus sounds still beep. Was trying to take pic of our sleeping kid the other day and the autofocus beeps woke him up.

There's an app called "Vignette" that allows you to apply effects, change quality settings, etc. It's around $5, supposedly gets updated pretty often, and you can turn off the shutter sound. No autofocus sound either. I'm pretty impressed, my first app purchase. No 16:9 capture support yet, pictures are full-frame (at whatever resolution you want, 8MP, 5MP, etc).

One other thing, I think it's a state/federal law that requires that the camera on phones make a noise, to discourage voyeur photography I believe.

I can confirm the autofocus indicator sound occurs when the phone is in silent mode. Weird bug.

This sound like a blackberry bug. I never could get a silent dieter on blackberry either.

FWIW, the camera on my original Droid does not sound the autofocus beeps when in silent mode.

KI4YJL, QSL. 73s to you.

I just bought Vignette. Good app. Like the previous poster said, the camera is completely silent. It was actually 2.99.

Quick Settings Widget/Volume Control, one touch turns everything off. Yes even the camera sounds.

I found that the slider for "alarms" if set to zero quiets the sound the camera makes when it focuses but it doesn't stop the sound from the actual taking of the pic.

Which slider are you referring to?

I think it's a common practice for ALL cell phone manufacturers and software developers to not allow this on stock phones because of lawsuits for peeping toms and pervy up skirt shooters.

Open app then hit menu button to customize. There are some hidden settings. Use the master control. One touch to turn all phone sounds on and off.

Awesome! Thanks! I have been using this app for a while now and overlooked the customization of it. Works great!

With Vignette, there is no sound at all - focus or shutter - and it's hard to know when the photo is actually taken! Too bad there isn't a way to control how loud the sound is in the native camera app. And, so far in Vignette, I can't find a setting to enable the shutter sound. Opposite problem!

Here's how to have a silent camera, including the autofocus sound with no external apps. Turn your phone to silent (or use the rocker to go to no sound), then go into your native alarm app and uncheck "Alarm in silent mode."

No camera sounds at all.
