SIM Swap Problems: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 ---> Motorola ATRIX HD MB886

I have a Galaxy Tab with a data plan from AT&T that has served me well. I recently was given a phone to use by a friend, a Motorola MB886 (also an AT&T device). I want to use the SIM from my tablet in the phone so as to have a phone with a data-only plan. I've done plenty of research, and I know this can be done. However, I can't seem to get it to work

When I put the SIM in the phone, it shows that I get 4G signal. There isn't any data connection though. I have entered all the correct APN settings, but to no avail. Can anyone help?

Is it the same Sim size?

The research I've done shows while some have done it, at&t is able to see and disable it. Or just doesn't work.

Hopefully someone can chime in.
