Simple WiFi icon question

While connected to WiFi on my at&t htc one, my 4g lte icon still shows? All previous phones I have had the mobile data signal disappears when connected to WiFi. While not 100%, I'm almost certain I'm not using data while connected to WiFi, but was wondering if this was normal with other at&t users?

Yes, it's normal ... For me it's nice to know whether or not the LTE or HSPA+ is actually being picked up in the background.

Same for me too. I have RadioOpt keeping track of my data usage and with WiFi enabled, 4g data is not used.

It stays up for two reasons, I think. To show you have connectivity and to speed up the transfer from WiFi to 4g if you lose your WiFi signal.

Edit:
Just wanted to add, with both enabled WiFi is the first the phone (and most devices) will try to use. If you have WiFi on but can't get a connection to a WiFi router(/access point), then it kicks over to 4g. ;)

Thanks for all the info. Glad to know it's normal.
