Murph -- ALL pixels are the same. The Verizon version, BestBuy, Google Store, etc. They're all made with the exact same components and everything. The only difference is who sells them. A Pixel phone will work on ANY carrier regardless of who you buy it from.

For a purchase like this, I would HIGHLY suggest putting it on the credit card. Many credit cards offer accidental damage, loss, theft protection for a certain number of day after puchase (my old AmEx was 90 days and my Citi Costco Visa is 120 days). My Citi card also doubles the manufactuer warranty so the standard 1 year warranty instantly becomes a 2 year warranty. Check with your credit card company for specifics, but the accidental damage coverage on our cards has saved us big bucks multiple times.

You are correct, but you can order straight from Google and activate them on any network. I don't love carrier exclusives either so I understand your frustration.

Not entirely true. I walked into Best Buy this weekend and purchased the Pixel for use on T-Mobile. The phone is fully unlocked and works great on T-Mobile.

I have the Verizon model NDE63P using it on AT&T --- the question I have is when "Google" releases an update (not Verizon) will my phone receive it?

Like everyone else has said here, Verizon wants you to think this is the case, but honestly its unlocked. Its a lot like getting an iPhone through Verizon...its not locked to Verizon, if anything its compatible on both Verizon's network and GSM networks (international and AT&T/T-Mobile) making it more useful and valuable than GSM only models.

I purchased my Pixel from Best Buy which only sell the "Verizon" version. The only Verizon part of the phone is that it has a Verizon SIM card pre-installed, NOTHING ELSE! It is carrier unlocked, not Verizon branded either. All I did was remove the Verizon SIM, popped in my T-Mobile SIM and it works great.

I'm on Verizon, but I'm trying to decide whether to wait to purchase it from the Google store. If I have a Verizon sim-card in it, will the updates be handled differently depending on whether I bought from Google or from Verizon, or will it be exactly the same?

Just to be safe buy from Google instead of buying from Verizon or Best buy for use with other carriers. I know Google store is out of stock but waiting a few weeks and buying is better when you are paying so much for this device.

The Pixel ads on TV are good for Verizon, bad for Google and all the other carriers. The ads always finish with "Only on Verizon". My friend saw this yesterday while we were watching football and he said something like it's too bad it's only on Verizon, it looks pretty awesome. He has T-Mobile. I explained what was going on.

Interesting. I didn't power up the phone with the Verizon SIM. I removed it and used the T-Mobile SIM from initial boot up. I'm still on N build.

Hmmm, I'm fairly certain there IS a difference. The Verizon one will have a locked bootloader, and it CANNOT be unlocked. The Google Play store models will have unlockable bootloader. That is a HUGE difference for enthusiasts. For regular Joe, won't matter at all.
