Size. Matters.

Since we're on the topic of different sizes .... Why not bring up shapes too.

Look at what I just pulled out of my phone cabinet.

4.5 x 4.5

The only thing that would bring me back to the passport is nostalgia. I bought it just shortly after it was released. It was a fun phone to use and the key board was great and I loved the functionality of the screen. It wasn't too bad to put in the pocket but it did get ergonomically weird when I had to find a place to put it while driving. It wasn't very friendly with my cup holder. I miss that thing though. It was a fun device to use.

Right now I'm on the G5 from the Note 4. The Note's warranty was expiring and there were extreme slow downs that made me miss a lot of special moments. It would die at 10%, and lag like crazy. One of the best devices I've ever had, but the G5 is a massive jump over the Note 4 speed wise. I can fit it into my pockets and cup holders a whole lot easier too :)

So left my Note 4 for a S7 Edge and I am actually fine with the move from 5.7inch to 5.5inch, with the S7 Edge its a mix of compact design plus a large display with small bezels, so it works out quite nicely.

5' inches of course. Not bigger. If you need screen bigger than 5' then you need a tablet, i think.

Really depends in the size of your hands. I'm not a large person. I'm 5'5'', but my hands are bigger than average and typing in anything smaller than 5" is inconvenient and inaccurate.

Agreed. The S7 is quite the device.

There's a big difference between 5.2-5.5" phones and a 7" tablet. Even my 6" Nexus 6 fits in most pockets and feels like a phone but tablets aren't really pocketable and require two hands.

Indeed! Very true.

I hate it when people generalise like that, they don't seem to grasp the fact that 5.5-6inch smartphones are not tablets, they are phones mostly made for those who are "power users", who spend more time on our smartphones and require a tad more screen real estate while maintaining a pocketable device with much longer battery life than your average 4.5-5.2inch phones. 5.5-6inch phones are also made for those who have large hands or poor vision.

My S7 Edge and Note 4 cant replace a 7inch tablet and a 7inch tablet cant replace them.

I'm so happy that the size for me isn't that much of an issue since I have my handbag most times ........ unless I'm going out clubbing.

I guess women have always taken this for granted unlike men who would need to slide a large phone in their slack front or rear pocket.

If I had to carry my phone this way then of course a larger phone would be an issue but for moi it isnt due to my bag so yeah I have no problem with 5.7 ......... if anything the new Mate 9 with a 5.9 screen intrigues me !!

I need a bigger purse. The Mate 9 does look amazing. I've become quite the fan of Huawei/Honor in the last year.

Let's not forget that a big phone doesn't always mean a bigger screen. Note 5 vs iPhone 6 plus for example. The iPhone is a physically larger phone that carries a 5.5" screen, the Notes screen, however, is .2" longer at 5.7".

They can keep devices on the smaller side by using more real-estate on the front of the devices. The G5 with its large top and bottom bezels could probably be stretched to 5.7” of they desperately wanted to.

This is absolutely right. I couldn't agree more.

5.7" is the sweet spot for now. Currently using a Galaxy Note 4 but I wouldn't mind a 6" phone. My previous phone was a Galaxy S2. For me bigger is better especially if it comes with good battery life.

Absolutely agree about the better battery life.

I like the look of the bigger smartphones. When I see one, I drool over them. But, I would rather handle a smaller smartphone. When texting, or carrying, making phone calls, or exercising, the smaller size is better suited for me.

Just got one to try out for fun. Not oddball at all btw. One thing I've learned over all these years of being a mobile device fanatic and collector is that Smartphones are like fashion, Art and food ...... VERY subjective. The fact that people will actually give someone a hard time about what phone they're using is just silly.

Did you get it yet? If so, what are your size impressions?
