Skinned Google Messages

I don't think it's Kool-Aid. People wanna think or say Kool-Aid or whatever to justify their choice of product as much as the other people want to justify their choice. Some people use "Ecosystem" as a negative or to talk down a product...

The Note is not just one of the the best Android phones out currently... if not the best (I probably being biased)... Oops, sorry the S22 Ultra ;)... But I do think it's one of the best smartphones... period... regardless of OS.

So being one of the best smartphones in the world... and probably can say you could include the S21 last year at least, why can't Samsung also sell 100 million Sxx phones a year like Apple does with their iPhone 12 or 13?? What is the secret sauce they are missing??

My opinion but maybe people really prefer iOS over Android. People really do like the ecosystem. It fits their daily needs and lifestyle. They do like it plays well with their iPad and iWatch and MacBook Air as well as with other iOS users. iOS is to mobile as Windows is to Desktops. I love Android as much as iOS for phone. But it's not for everyone.

We here wanna be different. That's cool. Love my N20U and when I was without waiting for my screen to be replaced and ran my iPhone for a month I was happy to be back using my N20U as my daily. But just because the majority prefer iOS.. iSheep?? LOL.

@donm527:

oh my, i didn't realize that that Apples profit margins are that much higher than Samsung's profit margins!

i wonder what Kool-Aid they make that can get Apple consumers to continue paying higher prices for not-much-better products? is it just iSheep mentality?

I also think Note 20u is still one of the best phones out there no offense with this s22U user it's basically a updated Note.

As for iPhone messaging all I need is reaction to work both ways for iPhone user and Android that's all I want then it be perfect, I can't see that being difficult to do , I do have to say majority of people I know on iOS don't have their read receipts on don't want u know it's been read .

All last month I was giving Google Messages another shot because I was tired of seeing my sisters always sending reactions to our texts and I waited for the update even after going through so many bugs of not getting texts and wondering if it was the beta Messages but not I think it was more carrier. When it finally arrived, I was happy to see the reactions appear.

Then a couple of days later, after a whole month of playing with it and waiting, I uninstalled it LOL and went back to Samsung Messages.

I tried to ignore it but I hate the toolbar always hitting the stamps and gif searcher when I just want an emoji. I'm not a teenager that likes to plaster stickers and gifs... Google, I can live with not being able to customize text backgrounds, or bubble colors. I guess you just want to provide to keep the Messages app clean and simple?? But WHY can't you just give the option in settings to remove two simple annoyances like stickers and gif search from the toolbar then?? LOL.

I'll live with seeing the reactions in text over dealing with a useless toolbar. :p

You can rearrange the tool bar in keyboard or delete some out

But I think the other toolbar you can re-arrange like move the clipboard option and a few other things, but I think where the stickers and gif searcher are you cannot delete either or re-arrange out of position 1 and 2 from the left? And they can't be re-arranged out of the strip by filling in options before them. If you say it can be done I'll maybe re-download it again and see.

Your using Samsung keyboard? I can double check

Samsung keyboard you can move them where you want or remove them

Thanks again. It worked using Samsung Keyboard and even Swiftkey and now I see it's a Gboard thing where they won't let you get rid of those two and not Google Messages.

I dunno why I didn't think it was a keyboard thing. I guess I had given Gboard recently a second around the same time I gave Messages a second chance so I guess that's where I got confused which features came from which app.

I'll have to play around Samsung Keyboard and see if I like it or go back to Swiftkey if I want to keep Messages.

I was liking the keyboard layout of Gboard (spacebar in Swiftkey too short and always hitting the comma) and I think the voice dictation was working better with Gboard than Swiftkey and Samsung but getting rid of Gif tool and stickers is a plus. Geez, can't find the perfect keyboard now lol.

I go between all 3 also lol, there is a update in galaxy store for Samsung keyboard, your welcome

Perhaps Google is doing it in stages, and showing the incoming received reactions from iPhone users as step1. I'd agree that this shouldn't be rocket science, and it shouldn't now be hard for Google to let Android users "react" to other people's SMS messages, sending out those reactions over SMS.

Hopefully they can get it going

Anyone have any issues with a slight lag when clicking a text thread?

It will take about 3 secs to load my text history and even then the keyboard will lag a bit as well. Samsung Messages used to give me similar issues in the past, but when I had switched to vanilla Google Messages on my old phone it was much snappier. Now that it is back in this Samung/Google Messages hybrid it seems to be laggy again.

Yes, currently Google Messages (beta) lags. I've temporarily switched to Textra while we wait for Google to fix the issue(s). This lagging started prior to the April Android patch.

I'm not having any issues on Verizon with the Samsung beta.

Are you guys with this issue on AT&T by any chance? I've seen prior posts about AT&T users having this issue (likely because AT&T use its own RCS service).

TMobile USA. I've read about several people having this issue with Google Messages starting about 10 days ago. Not sure what the issue is, but since I've seen several threads on it, I drive on (switched to Textra) until i see the issue resolved. Unfortunately, I have no time to dig into the details on it. I just check Messages again every time I get an update to see if it's been resolved. Obviously, still waiting. lol

Who knows, maybe the May Android patch will address something too. I have read about some performance issues introduced with the April patch. But this Messages issue started for me with the March patch installed.
