Skinned Google Messages

It's provided by AT&T.
We're all on AT&T. RCS works properly between my son that has the S20. It does not between my son with the unlocked S22U.

Thanks. I think I got it now. Your RCS is not going to work with your son's unlocked S22 even if he has an ATT SIM in it. It will only work with other ATT firmware S22s right now. I suspect if you look at his Google Messages, the chat services will be provided by Jibe. He would be able to use RCS with other S22s that are not ATT branded phones.

I am thinking it works with your other son's S20 because he's using Samsung Messages which will be on ATT chat services. But it won't work if he uses Google Messages because he would be on Jibe.

So, in theory, both of your sons should be able to use RCS if both of them used Google Messages.

At least this is all what I'm let to believe. I have ATT and T-Mobile and they both cannot use RCS with each other because one is on Jibe and the other is on ATT.

You can thank ATT for this mess.

Google Messages.

You're getting the iPhone emojis but you have no option to turn it off or on in the Settings>Advanced?

I wonder if I have it. I haven't had anyone use an iPhone emoji. I don't have the iPhone emoji settings in Settings>Advanced.

I had that toggle, it disappeared and was replaced with the see typing toggle on yesterday's(?) update. I have the iPhone reactions toggle again after the latest update. The reactions worked regardless, though.

If it is a server side addition it is frustrating. I have had the features a while with my P6P, which is why I started this thread.

If I do the beta Google messages, uninstall Samsung, wipe cache and install beta Google Messages APK, I have the sort feature, iPhone emoji, and upload video features(in other words, everything). If I stick with the Samsung version of Google Messages I have nothing.

It is a PITA to not accept the updates to Google Messages, which reverts it back to Samsung version.

Hey there can you tell what the beta install date you used? You said use the latest.

I just realized that, while I have the iPhone emoji reactions, I don't have the sort feature. I did have it at one point, although I can't recall if it was when I was using the open beta or since I reverted to the Samsung variant. I *think* I may have had it on Samsung, but not now.

I agree with you about having to avoid the update in Play. That's why I went back to Samsung and stayed tthere since I still had the iPhone reactions.

...and I might even go back to the open beta again, except the first time it screwed up my personalized notifications for individual contacts and I had to set most of them again. Also a PITA.

Try toggling off, closing the app, and enabling it again.

I've had the iphone reactions and message categories for weeks on my Note 9, most recently running the 20220308 version before I activated my S22 Ultra. I installed the same version on the Ultra and had the category options, though it didn't work, and didn't have the option for the iphone reactions. I just tried what I suggested above and immediately the categories were working, but I still do not have the option for iphone reactions.

Like many have said, it seems to be a server side thing tied to individual devices rather than a user's account. I'd like to try a newer version of Messages, because the last time I updated the apk from apkmirror, I was kicked from all of my RCS chats.

For those who currently have them, is there a toggle for the categories feature? I don't really wnat that active if I can disable it (when I get them again anyway).
@gorgalis, is that the toggle to which you were referring, or did you mean the iPhone reactions (I do have that toggle and the reactions)?

Yes there is. This is my Google Messages from my Note 20U.

I think I've seen enough from the kookiness that is the difference between Google Messages on my Note 20U and S22 Ultra, and even from my ZF3 that I am going back to buying unlocked Samsung phones. The only thing I see now is that you lose ATT Video Calling and guess what - I've never used it before all these years.

Thanks. It just gets wierder.I have the iPhone reactions and toggle, but I don't have the toggles for sorting or auto-deleting OTPs. Beta user on the Samsung version.

Oh yes, there is no rhyme or reason: I have 3 Samsung phones and each one gives me different results in the settings. All on same beta versions, and on my S22Ultra - the results are different depending on which version:

S20U: iphone emojis, message organization, google photo links (the most complete)
ZF3: google photo links only
S22U: Samsung One UI: nothing; beta Google messages: only iphone emojis

There is no sense to anything!

Well well well... Look what just showed up! Beta user, unlocked S22+ on AT&T.

Yeah unlocked on AT&T and finally have it now as well with the official Samsung beta version. I also got the March update so not sure if that had anything to do with it as well.
