Skinned Google Messages

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

i don't know how i could get your March 21st update! mine is February something update, though just now, merely half an hour ago, i checked and had a google messages update (along with something like 10 other app updates) and still, after the update JUST NOW, it is still the Feb something update :(

darn it. wonder when google will finally push it to my phone? what's taking so long?

As already mentioned earlier, there doesn't seem to be any app version consistency in who has the new features and who doesn't. However, if you aren't already, you might want to join the beta program for Messages. It may be that your Feb version is the latest stable release.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I finally got the iPhone reactions option on Wednesday. It's a good start, but in no way is this a huge improvement.

If sending messages to a single iPhone user, it works OK on sms messages, however if the iPhone user sends a reaction to a MMS sent by the Android user, it will still generate the "liked and image" text between both parties.

And, worse, is how this all works in group text threads with iPhone users. The Android user will see the reactions as Google intended, however it still generates the "liked" sms back to the iPhone users. And, if the iPhone users react to a MMS, just like above, it responds with the "liked" message back to everyone.

This needs work to be truly helpful.

BTW, I'm running the latest 20220321 beta.

@claykin: thanks for the update.

How difficult can implementing this possibly be? An organization the size and scale of Google can't even do this little task?

Boggles the mind.

More than likely it's Apple intentionally trying to make this difficult....

Maybe. They do have a reputation for liking that walled garden they operate in. You know, the one with the razor wire on the top that makes it very hard for anyone, especially app developers, to get in or out.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

It's working for me.Just for texts,not pics.

@20blks: thanks for the update. may i ask what version of the phone you have please?

do you have the S22 Ultra? is yours the unlocked version or a carrier version please?

thank you.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

S22U unlocked on Verizon and I have this and have had this since getting the phone on release day. Toggle shows under Settings Advanced and have had no issue seeing emoticons response from iPhone friends.
Not sure what is driving who sees this and who does not.
I had this with S21U as well. I am a beta tester for Messages in Google Play but versioning changed with S22U to the Samsung variant of Messages as discussed but without loss of this feature.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

Showing up in Textra for me.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I got it on my ATT S22U today.. or was it last night. There was no update to the OneUI Google Messages, but the toggle showed up a day or two ago, and someone finally did it in a group chat I had with a mix of iPhone users. Totally server side activation. Seems very random.

Btw, you won't get iPhone emojis for pictures, only texts. There's no way for the app to know which picture was given an emoji whereas for texts, it can tell specifically which text was given the emoji.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

On my fold 3 running regular google messages I got it , but S22 Note and Pixel 6pro nothing yet . My experience so far when u send images and they laugh it doesn't show which imagine but if the life a comment or love it shows but they can't see see something we like so it is still work in progress.

That is funny because my ZF3 running beta google messages does NOT have the iPhone emoji toggle nor anything of the new features. It is a SIM unlocked ATT ZF3 using a T-Mobile SIM and has Jibe RCS.

My Note20U has Message Organization and Google photo links, but no iPhone emoji. ATT phone that is SIM unlocked but no SIM.

Lol, Apple and Android.
Like cats and dogs.
Sometimes friendly
Sometimes not.

Switched my sim back to my P6P for the past couple of days and reliving the features. There are two that I like, the iPhone emojis and the ability to send all videos hi-res by link. The sorting by category not a major deal to me, but it might be to another.

Can you snooze messages on you P6P and S22U? On my P6P I have to option to snooze texts within a conversation, but not so on my S22U. I also don't have iPhone reactions on my S22U so who knows if they'll both show up together

I don't have any of the newer features on the S22U. I can schedule texts but that is about it.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I have it on my US Unlocked S22 Ultra. Just checked today, not sure from how long it's been there

Still not available on my Pixel 6 Pro Google messages app

Definitely no logic to how people are receiving it on the S22 series. Like you I'm unlocked on Verizon and on beta but have yet to receive it although I have it on my Note 20 Ultra, S21 Ultra and Z flip 3. I just want it back so I don't have to receive so many message notifications in group chat. My work group is ridiculous with these things lol
