Definitely no logic to how people are receiving it on the S22 series. Like you I'm unlocked on Verizon and on beta but have yet to receive it although I have it on my Note 20 Ultra, S21 Ultra and Z flip 3. I just want it back so I don't have to receive so many message notifications in group chat. My work group is ridiculous with these things lol

I am on Tmobile locked and I don't have it on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or my Fold 3.

it boggles one's mind how fragmented Android is, as many have already noted.

true, with openness comes fragmentation.

so Apple with its closed wall structure, naturally they have no fragmentation issue but they have far fewer choices.

still, with so many Android phones sold, you'd think that Google with its immense resources can devote more manpower to this and get this done right once and for all (on a number of issues, not merely this minor messaging one) and KEEPING IT UP.

disappointing that Google's modus operandi has always been: we're interested in something until we change our minds and we're no longer interested. then, once we decide we're no long interested, we will abandon it.

it has happened again and again. any google service they decide they aren't interested in anymore, they simply abandon ship.

I have it on my US Unlocked S22 Ultra. Just checked today, not sure from how long it's been there

What is "receive service messages?" I don't have that option (Verizon locked S22 Ultra with latest Samsung variant of Messages).

Not completely sure mine US Unlocked model with T-Mobile SIM. I have that on Pixel 6 Pro as well.

So I have the option to use use the iphone emoji options but how do I do ? My sister is able to do it on her s22 , but It's not working for me . I'm supposed to hold down the message and the emojis will pop up right ? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Lol

They always take forever. I swear sometimes at least a month, maybe more. Makes you wonder the point of being a beta tester of the actual app.

I'm feeling like I want to go back to the open beta. I'm guessing it must've been when I was on that for a week or so that I had the sort feature. I don't even care about the sort feature, I'll turn it off, but moving forward maybe I'll be better off with the open beta and other features. The only one I have now is the iPhone reactions.

Others who have rolled back updates, cleared cache, and then installed the oepn beta apk, did you find your Message notifications got screwed up (if you set individual tones for contacts)? Installing the open beta is easy enough, but I don't want to have to reassign tones again as I had to after the first time I installed the open beta.

What confuses me is how any of these "got it or not got it confusion situations" can even exist.

Theoretically, I think the only way for Google to be able to control if someone "has it or not" should be via:
- presence (or not) of a certain OS version or beta;
- presence (or not) of a certain MessagesApp version or beta;
- presence (or not) of certain RCS settings in conjunction with backend carrier settings/capabilities for RCS

However, lots of people report having it (or not) with seemingly no clear correlation between any of their different situations and for against the things I listed above.

In my opinion, that means Google has other "controls" they can manipulate and switch on/off for "functions/capabilities", beyond what we as device users think only we should have control over, in terms of choosing or not to update OS, apps, participate in RCS or beta, etc... Maybe, Google has full/direct control over this (no control by the device owner at all) via something like how they also have full control over stuff that depends on their WebView? Basically, parts of the OS having direct and tight WebView dependencies, not just for WebView dependant apps?

I am I the only one wondering about this, from a potentially alarming viewpoint? Am I completely missing or not understanding something wrong about what is happening?

There's little question at this point that the new features are being distributed via server side update from Google. This isn't a new thing. There have been plenty of features and updates they roll out this way. It seems to routinely take forever.

That's why there's no rhyme or reason to who has the new features and who doesn't. Although there is probably an additional factor of app version, OS, or other user side factor that plays a roll. For example, I'ver had iPhone reactions for a while on Sasmung or open beta versions, but only had the sort feature on the open beta. The combo of server side updates and to which versions, etc. those are sent is probably why it's so messed up.

Nothing new though, pretty much every Google feature it's always server side thing. It takes several months before it reaches everyone, that's always been the way Google roll out most new features.

This like a lot of other features are server side features as @KPMcClave said. Google handles these kinds of things in a staged rollout so not everyone gets features all at the same time. It's actually really common for Google. Some, but not all beta users get features first. Then a wider beta rollout. I've seen non-beta users get certain features before beta users too. Same way Google can add features in other apps without actually updating the app itself. Or how Google tests new UI features in the Play Store.

I'm not impressed with Google iPhone reactions , you cant show your reaction to those users .

The only way I've even seen them work was just texting myself from my iPhone. Hahahaha! I'm a weirdo though. My iPhone using friends have my iPhone number, and my Android friends have my main number which is always an Android phone of some sort.

Just checked my messages advanced settings and iPhone reactions is now enabled for me. UK unlocked Pixel 6 Pro
