Complete myth. Skype Mobile never had any security leak, be it the non-video or video versions.
***DO NOT CONFUSE SKYPE MOBILE WITH SKYPE FOR ANDROID***
Here is the break down:
Skype for Android- Audio only. Works for all current Android devices. Had security issue but it was fixed, since its account architecture runs directly to the web.
Skype Mobile- Audio only. Verizon Wireless devices only. Since its account architecture runs through VZW before the web, it did not fall victim to Skype for Android's security issue. ***NOT FOR USE WITH THUNDERBOLT***
Skype Mobile with Video- Audio and Video. Verizon Wireless LTE devices (and maybe a few 3G ones as well). Since its account architecture runs through VZW before the web, it did not fall victim to Skype for Android's security issue. ***THIS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON MOST DEVICES***
So long as you and all your contacts remove all your personal data, there's not much info they can take, besides your skype id and city? you can watch the youtube video showing what info they can take.
Please stop spreading malicious rumors. Skype Mobile with Video never had a security leak. It was ONLY Skype for Android, and that has since been corrected. Please refer to my last post for more information.
again, i'm not saying you're wrong - you're probably right, and i somehow misread it, but it seemed awfully clear what Android Police wrote, at least in my eyes. Still, i have made some errors reading what should be clear before, so that's why i'm just trying to get to the bottom of this.Last Updated: April 15th, 2011 How Does This Work? How Can Skype fix this Comments (86) Update #1: Skype is investigating the issue, we?ve been told. Update #2: Skype?s official first response can be found here. The safety of our personal information is often a concern of mine ? who has my email address, my phone number, my date of birth? How can I keep my private information safe while still enjoying the internet? These concerns have prompted me to take a deeper look at Android apps more than once, and often this can yield some frightening information. On April 11, a leaked version of Skype Video hit the web and, having a Thunderbolt,I had to try it. My first impressions of it were positive, it worked and ran smoothly. My next reaction was, you guessed it: let?s take it apart. What I discovered was just how poorly this app stored private user data. I quickly came up with an exploit, and I was in shock at just how much information I could harvest. Everything was available to the rogue app I created, without the need for root or any special permissions. Surely, only this leaked beta build was vulnerable, or so I thought. But upon examining the standard version of Skype for Android (which has been available since October 2010) I discovered the same vulnerability ? meaning this affects all of the at least 10 million users of the app. Just a side note, the "Skype Mobile for Verizon" version of the app appears unaffected at this time.
sorry for the inaccurate information, i read that there was a problem with the leaked skype video for the thunderbolt on android police. perhaps the version that they are referring to is different, or that they have inaccurate information? Can you clarify? [Updated] Exclusive: Vulnerability In Skype For Android Is Exposing Your Name, Phone Number, Chat Logs, And A Lot More | Android News, Apps, Games, Phones, Tablets - Android Police

From what I see in the video in that link, I cannot tell if he is demonstrating Skype for Android or Skype Mobile with Video. It *looks* like Skype for Android (which had this security flaw), but it could be either, with the app label simply shortened. I actually took a while back in early May and downloaded Justin Case's "Skypwnd" Proof of Concept app and was not able to harvest contact data from Skype Mobile from my Samsung Continuum (with normal Skype Mobile) nor from my Thunderbolt (with Skype Mobile with Video). I did not alter the "Skypwnd" PoC app, so there is something different between his Skype Mobile with Video app and mine apparently.
Please Note: He did state in this article that Skype Mobile (the 3G version) was not affected, so me testing my Continuum was really more of a curiosity.
This was what I said before:
What I would recommend: If you are concerned about security, then download the "Skypwnd" PoC app and see if you can harvest information from the leaked Skype Mobile with Video on your device. If you can, then you should uninstall it. If you cannot harvest any data... well do what your gut tells you?
Is this leaked version working on CM7? Video and all?

Thanks
