I rooted my TBolt probably around 6 weeks ago. Before rooting I was getting 4G speeds in the 13-25Mbps range for both down- and upload. After rooting I flashed the Infected Eternity ROM (after completing a full data wipe, plus both caches) and had it for about a week, but my 4G was significantly slower (in the 2-5Mbps range down and up), plus there were some other things that I wasn't thrilled with, so I flashed iKream El Nino 3.0 (again after full data wipe, plus both caches). Same thing with this ROM - slow 4G speeds, again in the 2-5Mbps range down and up. I had that one for about two weeks, then I decided to go back to stock, so I flashed the nandroid (full data wipe + caches) that I had created before I flashed Eternity. However, I am still getting slow 4G speeds in the 2-5Mbps down and up, so now I'm feeling pretty confident that it is not the ROM causing the problem.
I have read that the speedtest.net app doesn't work properly, so I should try a different speed test. However, first, I used the speedtest.net app before I rooted, and it was able to see the higher speeds I used to get, so it would have to be a problem with that app specifically on a rooted TBolt - is this the case? Does the root access affect the speedtest.net app? Second, while yes, that is what I use to test my data speed, I have noticed that my functional speeds are slow, i.e. loading webpages, downloading movies and music, etc. are much slower than they were before I rooted, so I do not think it is strictly a test issue, I think it is a legitimate data speed issue. Third, I was literally standing next to a friend of mine with a 4G phone (I forget what it was, but it was not the Thunderbolt - it was something new that came with ICS stock, he got it within the last couple months), and we both ran the speedtest.net app basically simultaneously. His speeds were 25-30Mbps down and up and mine were 2-5Mbps.
I know this is a long post, so I apologize, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get my data flying again like it used to? Would flashing the new radios from the 2.11.605.19 release help? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
