Slow streaming over Open Garden Wifi tethering?

I am traveling in a car and I am trying to watch live streams of some events on various websites and the videos are so laggy that I cannot even watch them. Any ideas why? I am trying to watch them on my laptop connected to my TB.

I have used Open garden for a little while now and has worked great. Yesterday however It was working very very slowly but I think that is more to do with "Data Issues" from verizon with the service not working that good.
