Android Central Question

I have two of these tablets that my friend got off a Walmart pallet and both of them want a activation code. Is there anyway around this? I would like to keep them stock but I can put on a custom firmware if needed.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by activation code. If you mean Google Account details including password, there is no chance of doing anything with those tablets without the original account details.

Welcome to Android Central! What's the exact model number (including any letters after the T380)? If this is a device that's LTE-enabled and intended to be sold through a carrier, then it's probably asking you to activate the SIM card.

How exactly did this friend get the device off a Walmart pallet? Was this sanctioned by Walmart? If not, bear in mind that possession of stolen property is also a crime, so you may be liable as well.

You mean "stole" - and you're admitting to possession of stolen merchandise here in a public forum? Not smart.

It's nice that you just assume stuff. Have you ever heard of major retailers selling there over stock or returned items? They do that, and you can but pallets of that stuff. It's a big business. Wal-Mart has started printing activation codes on there receipt for a bunch of there small electronics.

The tablet is a wifi SM-T380. Wall Mart has started printing activation codes on the receipts for some of there electronics. I tried calling both Wal-Mart and Samsung to get the code but neither of them can provide it. It sound like you are screwed if you ever do a factory reset and don't have the original printed receipt.

Keep in mind that we get a lot of posts here of a questionable nature, so when we see a question about trying to bypass some kind of security feature and the mention of getting something "off a pallet," it raises red flags. Apologies if wrong assumptions were made, but we as a forum have strict guidelines against discussions about bypassing security features, so the more clearly a person states the case, the better.

I've never heard of this store practice -- is this what you're referring to? https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Clg8oUuZfn4ZkFz23Iwjn7. If so, do any of the solutions there help?

I understand. The 2 tablets don't have the retail box. The each came in a plain white box . It looks like they were shipped to the Wal-Mart repair center and shipped back to the original owner. The only number on the tablets is the serial number. I did a factory reset on both of them and I was able to go though the setup and get to the home screen but they only worked temporarily and went back asking for the code. The DiSa looks like what is on these tablets but they don't say anything about it. I'll post a picture.

Tough situation. Your friend discarded the receipt?

I have a feeling codes such as are needed here are printed on register receipts. Because of the way the devices were acquired, that is not available as they were part of a bulk purchase of items being liquidated.

I believe you can purchase pallets of returned items from major retailers including Anazon through liquidation sites. Sometimes you end up with big bargains, sometimes the stuff is DOA.

Yep, the key word here being "purchased." If you say "got off a pallet," that could have a slightly different connotation.

Pallets seem like a big gamble to me. The cheap ones usually have a bunch of broken items.
Yeah....they did a thing on the news once, they bought a pallet to see if they got their money's worth...sometimes you get lucky
Others times some stuff you dont want or not working. It's cheap way for Amazon and Walmart to wholesale their returns.
