Smart Lock - trusted places problem

I don't understand why but Smart Lock just doesn't want to acknowledge my trusted places. Is there some trick as usual with Android where you have to do some bizarre thing for a feature to work properly? I have to unlock constantly in every place that I've designated as not needing the lock PIN.

Thanks for any help!

I don't have an answer for you, I'll just say that it didn't work for me either. I set it for my home and the first day I noticed that I was still unlocking. The second day I noticed that it was working but both days I really wasn't paying strict attention to really even care if it was or wasn't. The only time I really gave it any thought was when I was about a block from home and only had to swipe to get in. My thought then was, maybe it's because I just left the house and I'm in a fast moving car, and let it go. The third day was when it all started pulling together because I didn't have to unlock all the way to work (about 30 mi) and then I didn't have unlock at least 2 hours into my shift. I finally turned it off and the phone locked right away. I've since given up on location Smart Lock. It doesn't work with WiFi, which would be really useful, Bluetooth is OK if you're actually using it otherwise all of your notifications and alerts are going to the Bluetooth.

If you lock the pone, it will lock, regardless of Smart Lock. (I usually use a lock icon - some apps sleep during lock but don't during just a screen blank.)

It also depends on what you're preventing locking with - a Bluetooth connection, location, something else? Something may be fighting something else. (If you're locking on location, have location off and lose your WiFi connection, Smart Lock can't know it's where it's supposed to prevent locking.)

Is your Location set to High Accuracy? If it's Battery Saving, the location might not be precise enough for the phone to know it's in its Trusted Place.

I don't have any battery saving functions in any way on the phone. I don't understand it. It used to work fine, then I had to do a factory reset to send in the phone for a warranty repair to fix the vibrate motor and after setting it up again, the smart lock in trusted locations stopped working. Really confusing.

What about Improve Location Accuracy? This will turn on Wi-fi and Bluetooth Scanning.

I've had this happen a few times. I just add the current location to Trusted Places. It seems to resolve itself after a while. There were times I had 3 or 4 entries for one location that only differed by 1 or 2 degrees.

I don't get it, I did what was suggested about using the high location accuracy and last night it was working fine at home. I wake up, I turn on my phone, and it's not working again. I don't get it. As I said, when I first set this up months ago it was perfect! In the first try everything worked.

Is there an order or something to do this in? Do you restart? Do you type in the address a certain way? Does it fail if you change the name of the location (doubt it because I had typed in new names last time without problems)? Do I have to be on WiFi or Data when I set it up?

Trusted places has never worked consistently for me. ON any phone. ZTE Zmax Pro, LG G3, LG v40, Samsung S8+, Samsung Note 8, etc etc.

My Note 8 and V40 have about 4 different locations (bedroom, living room, other bedroom, den, work) in my home set up for Smart Lock.

Unreliable.

Hmmm.. I just tried something that appears to have worked.
I first made sure high accuracy was on, and then deleted all my locations including "Home". But then when I went to add new ones, I made sure Data was on first rather than WiFi, thinking that GPS location would be better than the one from my home WiFi. So I added all my locations again (frequent local shops, work, home) and I can only test "home" right now but it worked fine. I'm hoping that's all it takes. I'll report back in the coming days.

If you re-set the phone back to factory defaults, make sure you update your phones PRL and Profile in system settings. You can google for other sprints 'refresh codes' w/o losing your data that also might help.
