The answer is - not much. Great idea in concept, but I've never seen it work reliably. On the previous (4.1.2) firmware, the little eye icon would show up in the Status bar and then the screen would turn off anyway; on 4.3 the eye symbol is there all the time but doesn't appear to do anything.

Mine has worked, when I'm not wearing glasses. The eye icon lights up when it is doing it's check. If it detects that you are viewing, then the display remains on.

It doesn't work well for me in poor lighting or in a dark room.

It does need enough light on your face for the camera to read your face/eyes.
