Smart switch looses connection or stops at 99%

Galaxy S8+ on Verizon. going from Galaxy S6

I am having a hard time with smart switch, via cable connection.

It will suddenly loose connection and I have to unplug reset to transfer and start all over again.

OR it gets to 99% of media files and then stops working. I've been trying for over an hour or so, off and on..

I have lots of photos, but won't have them transfered given the choice. I want my apps,documents home screens and messages.

I've restarted a few times.

So frustrating.

Any ideas

Next day, still won't work.

I can't figure out how to do a reinstall from the Google backup and restore. I don't see how from the backup and restore settings on the 8+

I really want my apps and the data from them, and my documents, and my messages. don't need the photos and videos.


I blew by the auto one that does it when you set up the phone cause I was going to do smart switch. Anyone know how to get that back?


I'm going to try and backup messages and restore from app for my messages.


I have smart switch on my home computer, I may try that there. I tried to install it on my work laptop, where I have admin rights. It downloaded, but wouldn't open, side by side something error message.

My head aches.
