Hi All:

i have always been a bit nervous whenever i use SmartSwitch to transfer data from my current phone to the incoming new generation phone. often, it works well. once in a while, there are hiccups.

may i please ask if anyone has good tips and hints that would be helpful to avoid issues please?

in particular, of all the options this SmartSwitch app gives us, are there any to be concerned about and best to not use? should we be particularly careful about any particular steps please?

there is hardly anything at all written up and included with all Samsung's new phones, so i always feel that i'm doing this in the dark!

thank you in advance.

@TheMiz: SmartSwitch does NOT require wireless transferring, right? one may use wireless OR cable.

i've always used cable transfer in order to be "safest" so there won't be any wireless "errors".

does anyone know if a USB-C is included in the S22 Ultra box please? thanks.

I was under the impression that a USB-C cable is included in the box just no charger.

I always use Smart Switch on my PC to do regular backups. When I get a new device, I restore the final backup by cable to the new device. I just deselect the items I don't want restored like the settings. I don't restore old settings on a new device.

I have never had an issue.

I have never had success with it. Every single time in the past I have cabled to my iPhone and it's got stuck and then told me there wasn't enough memory, even when just transferring low usage things. Hope it works this time around.

Check out Smart switch on pc especially coming from another Samsung device.

Reasons:
It stores your photos /everything else
It can be restored at any time and can make multiple back ups

1. Use the cable. Absolutely the best way to go
2. If your sending in a trade in transfer ALL your device to a thumb drive or computer as well just incase you forgot something you can get it later..
3. Take the time to clean up your current device before the 25th. The more you clean up now the quicker the transfer and you'll also avoid unnecessary crap on your shiny new device.

If your unlocked on Tmobile, do you install the tmobile app, scam shield, tmobile Tuesdays and visual voicemail? Or, do you keep the bloatware off for a cleaner Android experience?

I use Tmobile visual voicemail app on unlocked because it can't use the unlocked visual voicemail.

Really appreciate the heads up in this thread about using Smartswitch.

Personally I log my Samsung Account into the phone and when initially setting it up I opt to use my Samsung Cloud Back up.

Sometimes I omit the apps from this and instead go into my library in the Playstore and download my apps manually.

If I use switch will app passwords be remember? I have an app i use to view cctv cameras and was hoping this info (passwords and settings) will be remembered

If I remember correctly, I always have to re-login into all of my apps on the new device after transferring everything over from the old device.

If I use Smart Switch with the cable how can I avoid copying contacts? If I don't avoid contacts Google will give me duplicates.

On my phone it appears to require transferring everything. No way I can see to uncheck contacts nor apps.

I do want sms and phone history.

Will app setups and passwords be transferred or do I have to set up each app from scratch?

Thanks! I haven't used smart switch since going from Note 7 stored on computer to Note 9.

Google does back up those things also under settings >accounts and back upScreenshot_20220216-215726_Google%20Play%20services.jpg

My sms messages are not backed up in Google for some reason?

Everything else is except photos by my choice. I don't have enough space in cloud to back up my photos.
When was last time it was sync ?
