SMS and wifi?

So I switched my daily driver to my Nexus 6p from my iPhone. Because my Nexus is a BYOD on my ATT plan they do not allow wifi calling.

Well at work, my Nexus phone does not pick up a signal. So that means no texting or calling. Obviously with my iPhone that wasn't an issue as I had iMessage and wifi calling.

So the question that brings me to this forum is, should I decide to go with a S8 I'll have phone service as I'll get back wifi calling. But I'm I correct in that my SMS still won't work?

And yes I'm familiar with what's app, telegram, Facebook messenger, etc. But texting is the one app every one has. A few contacts have one or some of those others. But not many do.

Thanks.

It should work when wifi calling is on.

AT&T said texting wouldn't go over WiFi but it appears that it does. I can text reliably from my basement my S8+ but not very reliably on my Lumia 950XL which does not have WiFi calling. I just tested texting a photo with and without WiFi and it sent in 5 seconds with WiFi and 50 seconds without so I'm assuming texting does work over WiFi calling.

Thanks. I obviously knew iMessage works via WiFi, just wasn't sure SMS would on Android devices. I just f'n wish ATT would allow me to use calling via WiFi on my Nexus. Sigh.

Thanks again
