So, how about those speakers?

One of the biggest complaints of Pixel XL owners (myself included) was the single, downward-facing speaker.

So, what do you new 2 XL owners think of the dual, forward-facing speakers? I am still playing with various equalizer settings (using PowerAmp for most of my media) but, in general, I find the 2 XL's speakers to be a huge improvement over the Pixel XL both in sound quality and volume.

Any other opinions?

They don't sound very full. I was expecting more on the low end. I am okay with the low volume because it ensures I don't accidentally crank it up and embarrass myself at meetings.

Not appreciably different than my Pixel. And when I face the bottom of my Pixel up towards me it's louder than the P2

Mine hasn't come in yet, but the one I tried at the Verizon store was decent, but I expected better with how much they talked it up. iPhone 8 Plus dual speakers were louder to me, but much better than Note 8.

For those of you complaining about lack of volume, frankly, I am more than a bit confused.

Using PowerAmp as my music player, I started it up, cranked the volume to about 90%, and then leaned my 2 XL against a prop on a table in a corner bedroom on the second floor of my home. From that location, I could clearly hear the music from every area of my second floor; I didn't go downstairs, but I'll bet it could be heard from a fair part of the first floor as well.

As for sound *quality* - PowerAmp's equalizer helps that a great deal.

I am no audiophile (although I love music enough that I don't know why I am not), but for me something about the speakers are a little different coming from the Nexus 6P.

The speakers are awesome on the Pixel 2, I'm enjoying them; but the 6P seemed...I can't put my finger on it. Was it louder? To me, the Pixel 2's sound is slightly more treble-focused or tinny.

They're not BAD by any means, in my opinion. But for some reason I just feel like the 6P's speakers sounded slightly better. I just can't figure out why I feel that.

Later today I'll do a comparison with both side-by-side and see if I can figure it out.

how come so many people have already received their XL 2 and mine only arrives the last month of November??? I pre-order within 30 mins of the live Google event ending. I ordered the Panda version. could it be bc of the color panda has more demand? Also it's a 64gb version.

They made less of those, and more of the black/black version. I've had mine since Wednesday, and it's been amazing so far, I'm loving this phone.

Every phone sounds much louder and "fuller" placed in a corner. It acts like a speaker cabinet as you know. Front facing stereo speakers ahould eliminate the need to do that

You are all commenting as if you're expecting Bang & Olufsen home theater quality from speaker drivers smaller than a fingernail. You need to adjust your expectations just a bit.

Last year I bought the 6P as soon as it became evident the OG Pixel wasn't going to have the dual front facing speakers. I absolutely love them on 6P because you can hear the stereo effect but as for sound quality it pretty obvious that they are horrible. Good enough for watching Youtube videos in bed but not much else (they are plenty loud enough for use as speakerphones and to hear it ringing). If it's something I want to hear I put on a set of headphones.

Pixel 2 (non xl) here. Listen to a lot of podcasts in the kitchen and reaching for the BT speaker much less of the time. Don't think I would listen to music on any phone speaker anyway.

I really look forward to the dual front facing speakers. Not that I would listen to music a ton through them but it would be nice in pinch. Like maybe in a hotel room I want a bit of music. Mostly though I use bluetooth speakers and headsets.

My Pixel 2 XL has speaker crackle and pop. It sounds horrible compared to my Moto X Pure Edition. Sending it back today.

Sitting in the living room kitchen or bedroom, it's fine. But if there's any background noise at all, not so much.. In my car I can hear it, but not a big difference from my original pixel

I was expecting more to be honest.

- It's a bit louder than the OG Pixel XL, but not tremendously so

- However with the screen facing you, it is much better to have the speakers facing you, without a need to "cup" a bottom firing speaker to direct sound at you.

Overall I am happy with them, but felt they would be louder than they are ...

I frankly dont understand the lack of volume thing either. For system sounds like ringtones there doesnt seem to be a whole lot of difference from the OG Pixel, but videos on youtube for example and some games make the volume difference extremely apparant. The 2xl is louder, no question.

What the 2xl is lacking is its low end. The OG Pixel for sure had a better/louder low range than the 2xl does. I dont feel like it sounds terrible, just not as prominent as the OG.

Mine is cracking and buzzing - especially on speakerphone. I can't turn it past 25% without severe buzzing.

Anyone else have a buzzing lower speaker?

I have to remember not to set the phone face down on the couch, like I normally would to protect the screen, because it muffles all your notifications or sounds with front-firing speakers

Not to hijack the thread but the soon to be released Razer phone's speakers are beasts with some seriously good bass. Anticipating a purchase but I don't think they'll be on Verizon just AT&T and T-Mobile. boooooo
