So, I broke the thin housing around the USB port...

Nope, not purchasing a phone because someone broke a insignificant piece trying to insert the cable backwards is not a mistake.

I don't even think it takes trying to plug it in upside down. In fact if you look closely, while trying to plug it in upside down, you will notice that the crack is less likely to occur by trying to plug it in upside down, than right side up. The pressure to that upper piece has more impact from the right-side up side if that makes any sense. Try it (don't force it) just enough so you can see what I'm talking about.

Cory, you're right. Looking at it, it's probably unrelated.

That said, I can't tell unless I LOOK for it, so...

fwiw, i broke that little piece by taking the usb cable OUT of the phone. i didnt rip it out either, i just unplugged without actually looking at it and being extra careful. i was able to take a flat head screwdriver and line it back up....ill probably get a bit of superglue and put it back in place. no biggie.

I broke mine too this morning. I was plugging it in as I normally do and it just snapped. I didn't apply any crazy pressure, I mean it was literally what I always do.

Now I'm VERY anal about my electronics (to the point of it being considered OCD) and having barely had it for 2 weeks, this REALLY bugs me. I called Verizon and they're shipping me out a new one. Had to charge me another $200 plus tax for it but it'll be refunded once they get the old one back. I mean, I do feel silly asking for a replacement and told the girl at VZW the same thing, but I haven't had the phone for two weeks like I said and I've babied it every step of the way.

Guess with the next one I'll just be EXTREMELY careful lol. And if it happens again, I'll just have to deal with it. But honestly, they really should've made that area stronger considering we need to plug it in every day, sometimes multiple times a day if using the disk drive function!

plastic. I don't even find it worth returning the phone for. You can't tell unless you REALLY look.

It's plastic. I agree, you can't tell. However, with my own phone, I can tell it happened and it's not like I was being "rough" with it.

Insignificant or not, just shouldn't be happening.

Definitely!

I switched from an iPhone (Owned all 3). That was my perfect opportunity to return it within my 30 days and go back to iPhone and I really couldn't see myself doing it! I am LOVING Android and especially this Incredible! :)

I haven't had this problem and I'm always around power supplies (car & office) so I'm constantly plugging and unplugging mine through out the day to keep the battery fully charged. I can say after reading the thread I'm very careful when plugging the phone in or out.
