So, knowing Verizon...

I'm not clinging to a best buy article. In fact I hadn't even mentioned it. It's funny you brought it up though. DroidLife, one of the biggest Android blogs out there, that pointed out that there has been a delay.

Just because a blog says it does not mean it is true. You can't delay something that has no specific official time-frame; especially when it is still well within the loose one set by the carrier. Google and Samsung don't decide when a device is released on Verizon, only Verizon can do that. Anything else is just wishful thinking.

t doesn't matter even if Eric Schmidt or Andy Reuben themselves say it, until we hear it from Verizon it isn't official.

Actually it is, since internal information is always tentative (and sometimes very much so) which is why it is kept internal.
E.T. made a great response to this so I'll only add that you're only looking at it from VZW's viewpoint, not the other stakeholders'. From reading some of BMX's posts, a strong case could be made that Google is frustrated with VZW's dawdling, for example.

I'm not whining about it but I'm not going burying my head like some apologists/trolls/employees (not you) either.

No I am looking at it from the standpoint of someone who understands how these things work. Verizon and ONLY Verizon sets the date for device launches on their network. That sadly is how CDMA networks work, even if Google were to manufacture and sell directly phones that were compatible with Verizon's network, Verizon wont activate them until they are in their system.

LOL "a strong case"? translation = "reading between the lines seeing something that isn't there"

and even if Google execs are frustrated that does not change the fundamental fact that Verizon and ONLY Verizon sets those dates. Anything Google states is moot.

And FYI I am not en employee of Verizon Wireless, nor have I ever been. I have some friends who are and I personally work for an indirect agent that sells both Verizon and AT&T.

Regardless of our differences over how to define "delay", I do wish (and hope that internally they did) really put pressure on VZW to get it out as early as possible. Clearly they wanted the Nexus out already, and I hope made Verizon aware of their displeasure.

While the phone has (probably) been delayed internally, they haven't set a release date BECAUSE they anticipated internal delays. Also remember that ALL of these "delays" are based 100% off of rumors with nothing having been confirmed at all. Remember when people heard about Verizon delaying the phone because Backup Assistant didn't work? People lost it over that even though it was based off of what one person said might be the cause of the delay.

Verizon has reasons for holding back the phone. They didn't get to where they are as the largest US carrier by doing things completely irrationally and without serious consideration. If you don't like their policies then go to a different carrier. Nobody is holding a gun to your head forcing you to renew your Verizon contract. Everyone needs to just chill and wait for the Nexus to come out or quit complaining and buy another phone already.

Oh I am sure they did, but as I said it is not up to them.

.

Exactly. And even if it had been true it wold have been a perfectly valid reason to do so, to phone nerds backup assistant may seem like bloat, but to average cosumers it is an important part of getting their phones set up and working the way they want them to.

Yep, and we all remember what happens when they push out phones before they are ready.

If you expect Google to publicly state that they're frustrated with the delays, then I seriously doubt that.

And you expect VZW to announce a delay? Did they ever say anything about the Bionic?

Of course they didn't and no I wouldn't.Letting them know would obviously be done in a private/confidential phone call or memorandum.

I simply agree that internally they were probably hoping for a massive launch on the same day (ie iPhone) and are probably frustrated they didn't get it.

Or thunderbolt for that matter.

wow.. people have serious issues.

Verizon never announced a date.. its absolutely pathetic that some people are still whining like they can hold a delay over Verizons head simply because of leaked rumors and forum whining.

The reason they dont announce a date, is exactly so you people cant cry about them delaying it if they dont have it ready for that date. Yet here we are with no announced release date and more whining then has probably ever been laid down on these forums.

Internal delays, plans, roadmaps etc change on every phone, many times.. noone has ever said that bugs, politics, or other phones on the market arent possibly postponing the announcement of the Nexus or causing Verizon to make their plans for it a little later then they once had planned, but that has absolutely nothing to do with people crying that Verizon delayed the phone.. they said it will be out in 2011.. it still 2011.. a bunch of impatient whining forum users who have whipped themselves into a frenzy for a nice phone but extremely overhyped phone tweetbombing, emailing execs, etc isnt going to force a billion dollar company to change its plans. Infact Im happy they arent bending to the will of impatient whiners.. they are running a business.. I assume most of us are adults in here.. stop acting like little kids who only care about one thing.

Its pretty sad that because so many people have whined on here about a delay, and have been pointed out to the fact that "seriously bro, you cant whine if they havent even given you a release date.. thats why they are so quiet about it.." that they are clinging on to the fact that best buy had an article showing a "nexus prime" for sale possibly as early as black friday as that they have a valid claim that they were done wrong and their delay whines were acceptable.

Since when have internet rumors (EVERY SOURCE HAS BEEN WRONG, EVEN PANDA) given you the right to cry about a delay?

ET: Personally, I fall into the first category, as I feel companies are manipulating you, and public opinion, by resetting what our expectations SHOULD be. Consumers should expect a good company to have a release soon after public announcement.

wow.... Verizon didnt announce the phone.. it was announced internationally by Google and Samsung.. Verizon had ZILCH to do with it. The phone just released a week ago internationally.. and it will be out extremely soon from Verizon. But how come Google and Samsung announcing an international phone, has anything to do with Verizon announcing a phone?

They came out afterwards, and let it be known the Nexus was coming to Verizon, and we would see it by the end of the year... they specifically give themselves these windows so people dont get expectations that Verizon doesnt intend to fill.. yet here we are giving them crap for not making these "expectations" that we based on assumptions, leaks, and rumors.. nothing official whatsoever.

jeez.. for all the shady stuff corporations do.. its funny to see one getting so much negativity for doing NOTHING WRONG.

You are preaching to the choir for some of us on this one. Unfortunately, there are some that want to believe there doesn't need to be an announcement in order for the phone to have a delayed release.

Personally, I think there are people who do not know the difference between rumors and facts.

Ill be patient and wait for them to fix anything they think needs fixing, bottom line. I want a device thats ready, not another TB fiasco.

However, if the SGN releases with bugs, Im not going to be pleased with this "delay"

LOL. You pretty much take the cake in the whining department with your paragraph rant. I dont think anyone else here put as much thought and effort into it. This is an Anroid Tech/Fan site. It is EXTREMELY understandable the "fanboyism" frenzy here. You cant tell a bunch of Android Heads to just chill about the Galaxy Nexus. The joke begins to be on you and not the "fanboys" doin what they do best

Can't wait till this phone gets here. Used to be cause of ics, and the pure google experience,(still is) now its changed to stop all this bickering and negativity. Some guys take this stuff too seriously and lash out at others just for differing opinions.

The minute this phone gets here we can talk about more exciting things like what rom or kernel to install or what mod to try? ;-)

They did NOT spend 500 dollars on each device.

I can pretty much assure you they paid less than 200, possibly even less than 100.

LOL

Ok...you obviously don't know how this industry works. Verizon buys the phones from the manufacturer at a discounted retail price. Is that price $200? No, of course not. Is it the full retail value of, say, $700? No, not that either. Verizon is buying these phones wholesale in bulk thus giving them a small "discount" if you even want to call it that. My guess of $500 was just that, a guess. Verizon is going to sell this phone for $300 most likely on contract and full retail for around $600. They take a hit when buying from Samsung because they know they are going to be selling these devices WITH a 2-year contract. They make plenty of money, don't you worry.

Verizon did NOT pay $100-$200 for this phone. They paid more than that. Even if it's $350 that they paid, 120,000 units at $350 a unit is $42,000,000. Do you think that is something Verizon would just throw away? Not release? I laugh in your general direction.

They will 100% get this phone and the release date is set in stone for DEC 21 2012 so mark your calendars everyone

I feel like people have been reading between the lines in my post. I was not criticizing Verizon for lying about a date. I know that they have never given us a date. I was criticizing them for their appalling lack of communication.

They aren't going to communicate something if they are not completely sure themselves. If they did and then something happened to change that (either something they could control or not) they would be crucified alive for it. They will announce it when they are 99.9% sure of the date (and price) and not before.

Yes, why DO people insist on applying logic instead of relying on the infallible word of the VZW
PR department? Oh, they of little faith!
