so video chat or no?

And I don't really see the need for a FFC. Sure its great if you use skype, but other than that, why would you need one? Personally I don't think I would ever use one.

lol as of now, no. But I honestly don't doubt that ONE day it will. Just needs some guy to have the idea, time and knowledge on how to do it and make it work since there aren't really any good top knotch apps that replace the lock screen and work properly.

Faster than the original Evo?

Easily MUCH.

If you keep up with CPU architecture, you'd know that the next generation offer more bang per Mhz and does it with less power.
Check out this comparison of the G2 versus the NExus 1:
T-Mobile G2 benchmark result leave Nexus One behind

The chip in the Shift is the same as the G2's I think. And the Nexus1 shares the same first generation Snapdragon as the EVO.

In general, Mhz can only be compared on the same generation, even on desktops.
For example, a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz is actually far slower than a Core2 clocked in at 1.8Ghz, and the newer architecture is far more energy efficient to boot.

This is, btw, one of the reasons the EVO is getting long in the tooth... it can even be trumped by the "lowly" LG Optimus in some 3D games. OpenGL test rated the 600Mhz Optimus S with 15fps MORE than the EVO, and its a budget (free) phone whereas EVO is supposed to be a flagship product!

800mhz will be faster and the battery will last longer on the shift (smaller screen helps too). This sounds AWESOME.

Now, back on topic- will this thing get a FFC camera or not? Because if not, I'm not sure its worth the upgrade versus something like the Optimus. (no 4G fee works for me!)

Yea no FFC on a 4g phone seems weak. Stuff like that needs to be standard on a product like this. If it does not have the FFC i will probably get the EVO but its a tough choice. The low price scares me.

EVO is $99 at Radio Shack right now. Last time BB and Radio Shack started offering special prices, Sprint followed suit shortly thereafter. EVO's value is about to DROP.

I would think they would put the FFC

It would make no sense to not put a camera in the front. Why would they offer less functionality on a new product? My fingers are crossed.

On a different note:
I was seconds away from buying an Evo when I found that I could not convince Sprint to drop the B.S. $10 4G fee. I intend to get the Shift, I'm coming from a frustratingly slow Hero. So, to counteract the $10 increase I looked around at my other bills to see where I could ask for at least a $10 dollar reduction. I called up my alarm company and threatened to leave them unless I get a reduction. I got $17 bucks off a month.

Sprint $10 4G fee. No problem. I end up with $7 extra anyway.

If I get the evo for $99 at radioshack, will the $100 discount show on the receipt, because i was thinking of getting it and then just return it for the shift when it comes out. If this does work i would have the shift plus an extra $50 for a case :)

It wouldn't surprise me if a newer phone didn't have a FFC but giving it the name Evo should imply that it has all the same or more features as the OG Evo. Using the same name in a newer product but decreasing the features isn't how things usually work.

Sprint is using "Evo" as a brand just like Motorola/Verizon use "Droid". That doesnt mean every phone carrying that name will have equivalent features.

But unlike verizon's droid series, there are other comparable android phones on sprint without the EVO branding.

Using the name implies something similar to the evo compared to other devices like the epic.
But right now, the epic actually seems more similar than the shift...

If you mean the EPIC is comprable to the EVO, I'd argue the Fascinate is similar to any DROID.
