WTF is that dot then?! cause the notification LED is definitely in the ear piece, i've seen it. any clues? It almost looks like the was supposed to be a camera there, then they changed their minds...
I think you mean the battery is crap when overclocking, because on its own this chip gets better battery performance than the original snapdragon.
I suppose it isn't fair to compare the performance of the Optimus to the Shift, but what I was trying to say is that in more general terms, the Optimus is closer in performance to the EVO/Epic than the budget phones like Transform, Hero, Moment, ZIO (ugh!) etc.
In my own testing side-by-side with an OpenGL frame rate test, the Optimus S actually rendered more fps than the original EVO, and without resorting to overclocking (this thing apparently screams when you overclock, but I haven't felt the need to- its fast enough).
Now, granted most things are faster with the premium phones, but the Optimus is at least in the ballpark (unlike every other non-premium phone), and can even outperform the current offerings at specific tasks, which has made it hard to justify an upgrade so far.
Here, I was interested in the Shift because of the keyboard and FFC, but it looks like the only option on the table with that is still the Epic. And I don't particularly like the Epic. So... Boo.

Hmmm....I run at 1500mhz on my myTouch 4G and I get great battery life (see the battery life thread HERE. setCPU is my friend.

It outpaces the EVO because it has a lower res screen with the same GPU. I also know that it can keep up in some areas with the newer Snapdragons (I've seen the benchmarks of an OC'd Optimus S).

i think i know what picture u mean and i think that might have been photo shopped on a dummy model. i might be wrong though.
the dot next to the earpiece is a light/proximity sensor...it turns on the backlight for the keyboard when theres less light, dims or brightens the screen and turns the screen off when you put the phone close to your ear so you dont hit the on-screen buttons by accident
