Can't wait for the release. One question, does anyone know if Sams Club will have a deal similar to CostCo?
There would be a thread dedicated to that if anyone knew. I haven't seen one.

I'm 100% sure I'm getting this phone and I'll explain why. Many people seem to be awfully worried about phones that "appear" to be coming in the near future such as the Vigor, Prime, etc. If there's one thing I've learned about waiting for phones is that you can't believe any dates until Verizon or the manufacturer announces something. Does anyone remember the Thunderbolt? The phone that was "supposed" to be released in February and didn't come out til a month later. So that Vigor that's supposed to be released October 6th? I wouldn't count on it. The Prime in October also you say? Highly unlikely.
Next, the Vigor might look better to the average person but I'll tell you why it's not. As irl Panda and I have pointed out, the Vigor's processor is the MSM8660, which is a 1.5GHz dual core, but is based on older Cortex A8 architecture. The OMAP4, Exynos, and even Tegra 2 processors are based on Cortex A9 architecture which is a huge improvement performance wise. So while the Bionic's processor may not be clocked as high, performance should be roughly the same as the Vigor, on top of better battery life with the newer architecture. On the topic of battery life, the Vigor will also have an HD screen. HTC has never been known for good battery life on their devices and now you want to throw in a 1.5GHz dual core processor based on old architecture, an HD screen, resource intensive Sense, and (possibly) LTE? No thank you.
On the topic of the Prime, the phone I know many of you have your eyes on, let me give you my opinions. The Prime will (possibly) have an OMAP4460 clocked at 1.5GHz or essentially an overclocked OMAP4430 (the Bionic's processor). I have no reason to think that we won't have root on the Bionic. Once overclocked, the Bionic should have similar performance as the Prime. RAM should be the same on both devices so it is equal there. Sure the Prime will have ICS, but Motorola will upgrade the Bionic to it, and I'm sure it will happen faster than any other manufacturer as Moto has been good with updates. Not to mention, there is a chance the Bionic will be unlocked at some point, but if not we still have 2nd-init and could be running CM8 once the source for ICS comes out. So to me the only thing that the Prime will have on the Bionic is the screen. The Prime is supposed to have a Super AMOLED HD screen. I have never been a fan of the oversaturated colors of Samsung's screens and much prefer Motorola's more natural colors. Plus, the HD screen is going to take more power to push the pixels so performance could take a hit on the Prime, not to mention a hit on battery life.
The Bionic to me measures up to the upcoming devices just fine in my opinion. Besides, since I'm buying the Bionic full retail (since I upgraded to a Thunderbolt back in March), the next time I'll have an upgrade available is in November of 2012. The Bionic should last me just fine til then and I can't imagine what kind of phones will be available thenSorry so long, just thought I'd voice my opinions.
So the droid life guy is saying he is hearing things about a 9/1 pre order on twitter. Hopefully he is right and I can give my cc a workout on thursday
I gave up waiting for the cost of the Thunderbolt to drop to less than $200 2 weeks ago to wait for the Bionic. I have been out of contract forever coming off a Storm 1 and am looking forward to Android. I will probably preorder through Verizon since we dont have Costco's in Milwaukee.
PS: My wife upgraded her dumbphone recently but needs a Smartphone now for her work...VZW wont help her out unless she pays full retail. Her # is the 1st line and I'm the 2nd line. Anyone have any suggestions to get a deal on something like the Droid Pro for her (she likes the BB style design still).
Thanks in advance!
Check Craigslist for one? I don't suppose a Droid Pro is that much for retail though?

I could make ya a helluva deal on an OG Droid once I get my Bionic![]()
I always keep my previous phone as an emergency backup personally. You never can anticipate catastrophe.
Lol that's no good for me right now, I'd switch back to a dumb phone if my Bionic dies on me. Sure if I really needed a phone though, I could borrow my friend's OG Droid since he wants to upgrade soon (to an iPhone for some reason...says that he doesn't need any the "fancy" stuff on Android, and wants a "plain old" iPhone. When did the iPhone become the normal, and everything else "fancy?") Anyways...I won't have an unlimited data plan so it won't be a big deal to me if I have to use my Chocolate again for a few weeks or so.
That sucks you didn't lock yourself into the unlimited data. Which plan are you going to take on the Bionic?
Probably the 2GB plan, I'm a poor student :-$. With WiFi at my house, and if ever needed, WiFi at school, I can handle the 2GB data plan pretty easily. Mainly I want a smartphone (and Android specifically) because I love new toys. Especially those I can actually use for useful features, and not to just screw around. But I can still do the latter too.
When it comes to getting this phone, if I have to take the 2GB data, I'll deal with it. I really want this phone, so I decided to wait on it, and as a consequence, I ended up without unlimited data. I don't expect Verizon to let you guys with unlimited get away with it though, they already have ways of screwing you out of that, and I expect them to find more ways of doing it soon.
Hah I'm a student too and even though I probably shouldn't be buying the Bionic full retail, I'm going to. Hopefully I can recoup some of the lost money through the sale of my Thunderbolt. Reason I bought a Thunderbolt in the first place was because I wanted to lock myself into unlimited 4G data, of course this was before we found out current Verizon customers with smartphones would be safe. I have no doubt in my mind that Verizon will eventually try to move everyone out of unlimited data. I see them making a change sometime around when the Prime comes out or early next year.
