So why didn't you chose the s4?

I didn't need the removable battery or sd slot. I also didn't want the s-"features" biggest factor was probably because I dislike amoled.

I didnt like the similar design to the gs3. Htc one on order. I dont like the lag between actions on the gs4.

I bought it to try something new. The last HTC device that I used for a good amount of time was the original EVO on Sprint. After I left Sprint, I didn't love the HTC devices that were coming out for Verizon. I tried them, but either sense was boring and stale or the form factor wasn't attractive. But when I saw this device, it was my chance to go back to HTC. I had the S3 and iPhone 4S/5 for the better part of last year. Pretty much for with both of them and there was nothing compelling with the S4. I'm glad I made the decision. For the first time in a while I haven't had the urge to try the newest device. The next devices I am going to keep my eye on is the iPhone 5S (because of iOS7) and the Nexus. I don't envision having a samsung device this year.

I've been using the HTC One for a week now. So far, I really like it! We received some S4's today at work so I decided to give one a test drive. The first thing I noticed is how cheap the S4 feels compared to the One. It's not even close. But the real kicker was when I kicked up the brightness on both devices and compared the screens. The S4 was a lot warmer, dimmer, and just seemed washed out. Has anyone else compared screens between the two devices?

I work on a android support team - I deal with issues from all devices day in day out from your Ones to your Galaxys and everything in between (even Iphones) I had a S2 and I nearly shed a tear leaving it. Worried on how different and complicated it would be. It wasn't. HTC Transfer Tool made everything smooth. The S4s design isn't far off the S3 which isn't far off the S2 IMO. So why do I want the same phone over and over? (And I'm not trying to "bash" Samsung I do love them)

This may just be down to the popularity of Samsung but I find myself dealing with more of their new handsets repaired to the HTC's - this can't be a good sign.

The sound on the HTC blew me away. The screen is awesome ( I dealt with a smashed Samsung screen for 8 months this might be the reason why). The One looks clean and as previously noted "sexy". I find the software minimal but to have everything I need, if it hasn't the Play Stores always there for support.

I never fully got interested in the S4. I was leaning more towards the S3. But the aluminum body just drew me in.

Because it's really an S3S and I've had enough of that crap from Apple.
You do realize that if the HTC One is a financial hit you'll be seeing the OneS next year, right? Companies don't fix what isn't broken. Should the One turn a big profit this year, next year you'll probably see the next HTC flagship look just like the current One, with probably a larger screen and slight body enhancements ala iPhone 5 and S4.
HTC will ride this overall design until sales fall off.

No reason to compare screens. For several months I drove myself and others nuts on what phone I was going to get and on what carrier. I bought the One, that's it, game over for a while. No since in looking at phones that will be yesterday's news when I look to replace the One. Besides, for reasons that I will keep to myself, I find Samsung icky...

I was wide open to either phone. My wife has the S3, and I was intrigued. The SG4 is also a great looking phone. I guess what swayed me to the One was a combination of screen clarity, improved Sense UI, and the speakers. I literally held both phones next to each other today, and they were both the same size, or certainly within a pubic hair of each other. I'm sticking with the One. For those who feel differently, good for you. You also have a great phone. It's nice we all have a choice that suits our individual tastes.

I can't express in words how envious I am of HTC ONE owners right now. I'm committed to Verizon for a variety of reasons (LTE coverage and grandfathered unlimited data and 25% discount through my company to name a few). Please Big Red get off your corpulent corporate asses, ditch the DNA and offer the ONE, I beg you!

I'm still rocking a HTC TBolt and my wife has a Razr Maxx HD which she loves. I'm long overdue to ditch the TBolt and I'm prepared to pay the $699 retail for the ONE to keep my unlimited data if they'd just OFFER the effing thing!

I'm on vacation and hit my local Best Buy today to buy something else I needed but since I had nothing better to do I spent 2 hours in their phone department. It was amazing how easy it was to disperse sales people who kept trying to "help me" by simply asking if I could buy an HTC ONE and use it on Verizon. I might as well have been wearing a garlic necklace at a vampire convention.

My point in posting is I finally got a chance to do a side by side comparison of the Samsung S4 and the HTC ONE for myself.

I basically did everything I could with both phones within the strictures of using Best Buy's internal wifi signal and how far I could stretch the anti-theft tether without pulling the entire display unit out of the floor.

I freely admit I'm no expert but I have been using Android Smartphones for a while and I know my way around the OS and both UI's. So rather than base my opinions on whatever both the display items had been screwed into by people playing around with them I immediately got into the Settings on both and tried to get them at least back to default.

Then I started to play with them from the perspective of what I would use them for most.

This post is already too long. Suffice it to say. Both cameras are excellent in the lighting environment of their store and the limited range I could shoot from. Both seem to have above average wifi signal ability so I'm going to take a leap of faith here and assume both have very good antenna reception and internal radios.

The front speakers of the ONE are greatness personified. The S4 had really good speaker volume but it just didn't compare when I cranked up Pandora on both side by side.

The ONE's display wins, hands down, period.

The S4 costs more retail.

Being used to Sense on a daily basis it was easy for me to find and adjust settings on the ONE to tailor it to my needs and the store's environment.

TouchWiz has a ton of crap I'll never use (or I'll hit the Play Store and get an app or three to add to Sense to do it better) and it took me a long time to wade through it all to find the settings I was looking for.

The ONE felt so good in my hand and reflects the build quality I've come to expect from HTC. The S4 felt bulkier and more slippery.

Both these phones were AT&T units so they were both loaded with THEIR useless junk. Any Verizon version will be loaded with THEIR useless junk. That's a wash for me.

I have no illusions that this post will influence anyone's buying decision especially if you already have a brand loyalty. These are just my personal observations and, again, my intense jealousy that there are a lot of folks out there enjoying their ONE while I suffer the interminable wait while Verizon's crack team of code monkeys work on cobbling together their inimitable pile of feces designed to bloat the ONE to distraction before they offer it to their long suffering customers.

I was pretty sure my next device would be a galaxy phone since playing with the S3 and note 2. But when I heard about the M7 I knew I had to have it. The unibody design and dual speakers made the decision easy for me.

Because I didn't need all of the gimmicks. Because bigger or more doesn't mean better. And from reading about the problems the Samsung has, less headaches. lol

I agree with this. They put more and more software into a phone and built up its internals so it wouldnt be slower than the previous version. I dont need all the extra air view and no touch. Plus I wanted something styled different and fresh than and iphone like progressive design of tweaking a small amount if looks every iteration of a phone.

My decision was bb z10 vs HTC one. I would own both if I could. Galaxy s4 is a non factor b! T"h

Yea I'm very happy with my decision.

Hey man, to each his own. At least somebody compared both and picked the Z10. The Z10 is pretty nice but reminded me too much of the iPhone (build quality and size, not the OS) and I fell in love with how the One felt in my hands. I think BB 10 has tons of promise and I hope they stick with it long enough to get moving again. Same thing with HTC, if they keep putting quality products like this into production then look out! Consumers win all around and really, for those of us here, isn't that what it's all about?

I got my HTC based on my experience with my s3 and note 2. I was sick of the cheap plastic, sick of the dim screen, and sick of all the bloatware.

I have been waiting so long for an Android phone to catch up to iphone. This is the first one that truly matches or beats the iphone in every category(IMO).

I don't need a 13mp camera on my phone.
I don't want my $600 device to feel like a McDonald's happy meal item
I don't want to have to stick my face in my phone to see anything when I am outside.
