Soft verses Hard Factory Reset?

Regarding a non-rooted phone...

Is there a difference between selecting Factory Reset from the menus (Settings, SD & Phone Storage, Factory Data Reset) verses doing a Factory Reset with the Volume/Power button combo? If so, what?

Good question. I would assume from the menu wouldn't wipe data maybe?

Think they both wipe. The average user isn't going to know about going into hboot to do a factory reset.

I'm sure you're right that the average user wouldn't know about the buttons, but, it's in the manual.

There is no difference. The two options are given depending on whether or not you can get your phone to boot all the way up.
