Software update killed my fingerprint scanner

This morning three was a software update and I updated. v 2.51.651.2. So far only one thing is screwed: the fingerprint scanner. I even tried resetting it and adding a new fingerprint. But when I press my finger on it to unlock the phone it's unresponsive. No error, no haptic feel....nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mad Dog

It still works for me after the update, but there was one moment last night where it didn't read my fingerprint at all. Will keep everyone posted if this happens again.

Day Two - Still not working AT ALL. I touch it and there's not even haptic feedback indicating it's been touched. The update killed it.

HTC support walked me through wiping the partition cache. It worked again. For a couple of hours. Contacted them again. We rebooted into Safe Mode. It worked. We booted back. It worked. For a couple of hours. They say next step is a factory reset but that's crazy.

Fingerprint scanner doesn't work to unlock or work with the banking app login.

Is no one else having this issue?

I little clue....

I figured out that if I have it set so pressing the power button locks the screen, the fingerprint scanner will unlock it.

If I wait until the Screen Timeout locks it, I have to use the PIN code.

It never did this before the update. It said it was a security update....was there a change in security levels or something like that?

I have the same issue after update and have found that after you turn the screen off, if you try to use it within the next few minutes it will work. Any more than that, it just turns the screen on but will not unlock and you have to swipe up and use the pin. I am hoping to test and get the exact timing figured out but so far it feels anything less than 5 minutes and it still lets you use the fingerprint scanner.

This feels like a bug, not a feature or security change. It's almost like if the phone is idle for so long it shuts down the processes that manage the scanner and it detecting its use.

That's what I and others are seeing. Once the screen display timing sets in you need the PIN. I ended up doing a Factory Reset and so far it's been great for two days. Also faster and I think a bit better on power.

I'm also having all of those same issues. I really don't want to factory reset and start over. If there's anything else, please share.

I didn't either, but if you back everything up it's relatively painless. 2+ hrs, mostly spent while apps re-downloaded automatically and then a whole bunch of logging in to apps again. But so far it's still working again for me and a few other people I know of who have also done a factory reset. HTC's suggestions didn't help (e.g., wipe the partition cache) so near as I know right now, it's that or wait and see if they issue an update to the software that takes care of it.

It still does it occasionally for me, but I noticed that this usually happens after some apps are updated via Google Play.

I wound up doing the factory reset...it was the last defense. Needless to say, everything is back to normal 👌

....and now there's a new update. Has anyone installed it? I keep putting it off but will have to bite the bullet eventually and hope it doesn't do it again!

... having the same problem and Sprint is looking to replace my device, only problem, they can't locate another 10 been waiting on a call or text from em since last Saturday ??????

I posted a solution for sprint users to the board. I uninstalled the mysprint app per a posting on the sprint community and it works perfectly.
