Sold my tab... buying an ipad.

I can understand itunes being looked at as evil. LOL. But so far.... when it comes to information consumption.... i'm really doing a lot more on the ipad (and maybe it's just because it's new to me). My girl now wants one (which may be part of the apple brainwashing....), so I might pick up another one for mother's day.

I'm not anti-android tablet tho'... in fact the xoom is on sale on groupon for $339.. which is a great deal.

The out the box setup has been..... minimal to none. I turned it on.... put in a few bits of personal information... and that was it. The screen on this thing has been amazing

I had an iPad 2 on release day. Within two weeks I went through four and finally went and got my money back and purchased the GT10.1.

The iPad had horrible screen issues and I just couldn't get a decent one. The GT10.1 had no issues except the usual half assed honeycomb. I actually felt the tab worked better once the update with Touchwiz came. That's just me though.

If they release a 7" iPad, I may consider trying it out again. I really did enjoy the app selection on iPad better. Still, who really needs apps when you can do most everything with a fully working browser. Oh, and I can't stand iTunes either. I hate having to install Quicktime on anything. Ugh.

I also bought a 10.1 from Staples last summer when they were on sale. Loved it for months.

Got the new iPad when it came out and love it just as much.

I think the OP's point was that the video editing software on the 10.1 is not as good as the ipads.

They are both great products. But everyone will use them differently. Right now 80% of what i do is web browsing. I use Dolphin on both devices and the web browsing experience is very similar.

I am not an apple fan. I had BB as my first smartphone and made the switch to Android and LOVE it. I recently expanded to the Samsung tab two months ago and love LOVE it. I barely use my laptop but there are work related sites that I do have to use with my laptop. But all in all, am impressed. I love the ease of it and have no problems with it. I have a couple of co-workers who are in awe of it. They want one. Apple is good for one thing....to eat LOL I am glad I have the Samsung Tablet. I did a lot of research. I have a wireless sales background and whatever works. Personal preference. Whatever you use, hope you like it. That's all that matters.....:)

I enjoyed my tab for almost 10 months. It was only when I saw the video editing at a wedding and how it was used to make a montage of my son that I knew there was something different about the ipad. He shot the videos... edited within 30 minutes.... and loaded it to share on social media sites. I tried making/editing videos on the tablet.... didn't compare (It's a pain trimming music for the video). I'm not knocking the galaxy... I used it daily. I've been using the ipad 3 for 2 days now.... and since this is an android forum I won't even bother with a review (ok.. one word..... WOW!).

The reason I used samsung media hub, was at the time of purchase, samsung was giving out $20.00 media vouchers. I had about $60.00 worth of credit. I purchased the Bourne Trilogy and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Long story short... I'm not against the galaxy tab..... but right now I am really enjoying the ipad (and the ABC player app..... only for ipad).

It really comes down to what meets your needs best. It sounds like the tab did not and the ipad does. Nothing wrong with that. That is the great thing about competition, we have choices. Enjoy your ipad.

I have my SGT 10.1 since it came out in June 2011. But I've been extremely disappointed by lack of tablet optimized apps compared to Ipad optimized apps. That's why Ipad is the market leader in tablets and will be for a long time.

This is why I have been contemplating going from my Tab 8.9 (which is great). I go to find an app to use, and the android options are slim and un-optimized. Very frustrating.

I bought the 8.9 because I don't want an iPad. Plus, I love the size and shape. It truly is the Goldilocks Tab. The apps are what is making me reconsider.

Best Buy took my Tab 10.1 back after 11 months. I was stunned--gave me full price against an iPad 3 with LTE.
I'm a technology fan, love my Galaxy Nexus and now love the new iPad (more than the Tab.) My experience is that the Galaxy Nexus is a better phone than the iPhone (by a wide margin,) and the iPad is a better tablet with many more custom tablet apps. Until I made the switch I couldn't understand why this difference was so important--take my word for it, it is. I was convinced to make the switch by the iPad 3 review on TheVerge. com and now I've convinced myself. I had ICS installed on the Tab but still wasn't totally satisfied.
I'm am for now..

I'm glad to read that I am not the only one who feels this way. Thanks.

I am way happier with my HTC Inspire than I was with my old iPhone. I Tab feels like a bit of a let down, comparatively.

I think when my wife goes for a new macbook, I will have to re-evaluate the iPad. How well do google apps (gmail, docs, music?, maps, etc) work compared to the Tab?

The Architect : The Google 1st party apps like docs and Play music work better on Android, no doubt. Gmail is pretty good actually (minus the lack of labels,) using the iPad's native email app...the interface is cleaner and navigation is straight-forward and snappy. I experimented with the ios gmail app but have removed it in favor of the native email client--Google has yet to support multiple gmail accounts (addresses) in the ios gmail app, but the iPad mail app supports many email accounts. Maps works well, but will be replaced in the Fall. Android Navigation is a killer feature in Android. navigation is more import on the phone for most people--not the tablet--another reason the Galaxy Nexus is better for me than the current iPhone maps. Apple navigation this fall may have me reconsidering...

There is yet to be a killer android tablet that can match the iPad out of the box. A lot of that is Google's fault. It'll be interesting to see what happens with future versions of tablet Android, especially with increased pressure from Windows 8.

What I've experienced has been this: android is great on phones and iOS is great on tablets. For whatever the reason, having both of them like that gives a 'complete' experience that meets my needs.

I like both...and have both.

Things about the iPad:
- On screen keyboard is disabled when Bluetooth Keyboard is activiated. It will enable itself if Bluetooth Keyboard is turned off.
- Very fluid and no lag
- Operating System is very closed
- Cannot edit Dropbox files, nor download them

Things about the Galaxy Tab:
- Ability to transfer files to and from a USB jump drive. Can also play movies and MP3 files from USB drive.
- Can download any type of file to device memory, and upload to numerous type of accounts
- Can edit Dropbox files, and upload files to Dropbox with ease, as well as download them
- Has some lag at times
- Can be customized
- Samsung Keyboard pops up when trying to use Bluetooth Keyboard. Have to install Null Keyboard to keep it from popping up.

I love my iPad 3. But I also have the Galaxy Tab 2. I like it quite a bit too. I like having that 7" size. But too me, they are both functionally the same. The apps are better on the iPad. For instance, Zite is one of my favorite news readers, on the gtab it's the phone version, the iPad it's of course the full tablet version. Wtf!! Flipboard I would also like, officially, and that's not out. The quality is just much different. But still the functionality is essentially the same. Google & developers still have some work to do in the tablet area. We'll see how it goes.

You can use wifi readers and drives to play movies & mp3's. Kingston wi-drive & Seagate as well as airstash.

You can easily upload and download files in Dropbox, editing you can use 3rd party apps. Droptext, notability. These will do exactly that.

Just figured you would want to know as a user.

The only files that I can upload on my iPad using Dropbox are Photo and Video files.
There's no option to upload other types of files like on the Android version of Dropbox.
The only type of files I can download on the iPad are Photos. I didn't have any video files, but I'm going to assume that is supports only Photo and Video files.
I took a look at Droptext, as you suggested. It's a paid app. Are there any similar to it that are free?
I would also like to edit Excel, PowerPoint, and Word documents that are stored in Dropbox.
Which 3rd party apps will allow me to do this on the iPad?

Droptext is only .99.

Quickoffice pro will allow you to edit those files fron dropbox. But it's also a paid app, 9.99 maybe more.

Sorry I don't know of any free ones, I did a quick search but didn't find anything right off.

I'm in the opposite position, I received an Ipad 2 as a gift and I want to trade it for a Galaxy tab. My 3 yr old son is totally hooked to the Ipad.... I can't get him away from watching netflix. Anyway, still going to get rid of it.

OK, I'll have to checkout QuickOffice Pro.
I wonder why the Dropbox version for the iPad doesn't include a a built in text editor like the Dropbox version for Android?

That's what I don't understand either. If another app can do it, then why can't Dropbox itself? Who knows. Lol.

Why? It's a good tablet for the kids. My kids love it. They always want to use it.
