Solid reasons to buy One and not S4

I just watched game of thrones on hbo go and didn't have to use headphones to hear it! The speakers are downright amazing!

Personally, with my S3, I found I would disable most of the Touchwiz gesture features due to the significant battery life I got back. I can only imagine the eye monitoring and other such features will have their drain on the battery as well.

I'll give you two reasons to buy the One over the S4: 1. left Speaker 2. right Speaker.
That's the "clear" difference.

Also helps me as someone who bought the One without waiting for side-by-side comparison. I feel better about my choice, thanks folks!

Call me shallow, but I'm going with the One over the S4 solely based on looks haha. The build quality on the One is top notch.

Had the S3 for a few weeks, and hated the plastic cheap feel of it. Traded it in for an iPhone 5 which has been nice... but I'm ready to make the change. Plus, I'd better sell my iPhone 5 before the resell value goes down when the 5s is released sometime in the near future

The fact that you are going to be using "audiophile" headphones means that the quality of the input that is driving those headphones is going to be even more important than if you were using cheap earbuds. And I can tell you that the Beats audio works exceptionally well with quality headphones. I know the Beats headphones are kinda a gimmick but the "Beats" audio in the HTC One really means that that the internal digital amplifier is powerful and will do your headphones justice. I'm not sure how the headphone audio quality will compare to the GS4 but compared to my GSII the One blows it away and is a main reason why I got this phone.

I like beats software and headphones but about 99% of all "audiophiles" will tell you that beats is crap.

All I'll say is that my experiencing listening to music on every Samsung I've ever had has been pretty bad. Sound coming from my old Note, Note 2 and S3 were pretty low in volume and wouldn't carry over well in headphones or into the AUX connection on my car. So the ONE would probably be better for music.

If I was in the market to replace my note 2 I'd probably go with the s4. I had a play with a HTC one but I wasn't keen. The build quality seemed nice but I like a replaceable battery and memory card slot.

I think you can't go wrong with either phone. They both have pros and cons. I chose the One because of the feel and look as well as how the software operated during my brief time playing with it at the store.

It was a nice experience having a good feeling phone combined with smooth and fast operation of the software. This is something the IPhone has accomplished for a long time and recently the Nexus 4. It's something that's hard to describe until you pick up the phone yourself.

I had the S3 and it was a beast. I love the expandable storage and being able to carry a spare battery. Having said that I found that I rarely needed the spare battery. It came in handy a few times but, I have an portable charger now and didn't use the spare battery as much. I also don't' like the look of touchwiz and always used a different launcher. Even using a different launcher doesn't eliminate a lot of other things a disliked about touchwiz. I ended up rooting and installing a Aokp ROM and really liked the phone then. Rooting, installing and playing with Roms is fun but, it really says something about a phone when you don't want to. I've rooted and tried custom Roms on my Nexus 4 but have eventually went back to stock Android.

I'm glad that HTC decided to add more storage to the One. That's one of the things that spoiled the One x for me. If you're going to make a phone with non-removable storage then more onboard storage should be provided. It was very smart for HTC to do this and was another thing that helped my decision in choosing the One.

Having played around with the One at BB, one thing I really dislike about the One is the button placement (compared to my S3). I can't stand the awkwardly placed/angles power button on the top left, very user UN-friendly IMO. Also I really disliked the flush with the phone volume rocker that's on the right side. The S3/S4 have (IMO) the perfect placements for the volume and power buttons, both of which protrude just enough to make it a breeze to use. I'm sure in time you can get used to the odd layout, but I just didn't find it user friendly. I read a tech site review that also disliked the layout and said on a few occasions they almost dropped their phone trying to fidget with the buttons. Anecdotal of course, but worth noting.

If you are the type to blast your sound w/o using earphone, then this is a cool phone for that. Also, the phone seems sturdy enough, but the back will scratch easily, so most folks will want/need a case to protect it. Battery life has been said to be barely average with mild/medium usage so beware of that as well. Also, this phone uses an older OS I believe as opposed to the S4. Isn't a good chunk of the 32GB of storage eatin' up by software needed on the phone so you won't really get 32GB of storage? I know with my S3 I love being able to pop in an extra 16 or 32GB of storage. Apps/music/video/pics take up a LOT more space than you think, and for me, there's NO WAY I could make it using under 32gb worth of space. That (IMO) would suck to run out of space too soon into the life of the phone.

Other than that, I'm sure it's a pretty solid phone and because it's "new" and the latest flavor of the day, most folks are going ga ga over it, and thus are very passionate about it. In a few days we'll have the S4 readily available and based on how well the S3 did, I'm betting the S4 will be hands down, THE new smartphone to own. Heck BB has opened a giant Samsung S Series kiosk to start selling these new phones (+tablets and accessories). Time will tell if little advertising and little exposure will keep the "One" at the top of folks list of phones to buy.

Should be an interesting year for smartphones for sure. My bet is the iphone (I'm a former 4 year owner) will really start to decline with all these great new Android phone offerings.

That's called marketing, not merit ;).

I just switched to the HTC ONE from the GS3. The biggest turn off for me was the dim screen on the Galaxy. I read that the GS4 will improve on this but not by much. On the other hand the screen on my ONE is the best on the market and I've seen a huge improvement in screen brightness! Outside on a sunny day is no longer a problem for me. Other pluses for me were: better color reproduction, easy wireless transfer tool for music/photos ect., far better design, awesome and fun camera features and i like the new "blinkfeed" home screen option.

Haven't seen S4, but reviews state that S4 is easier to read in sunlight vs One, plus with S4 they fixed color reproduction "bug" that was on S3

Link? AMOLED is generally worse in those conditions than LCD.

both are great devices..htc one is more attractive this time .but you go to store and feel and play with both phones and than decide whichone to go with. thats what i do all the time

im still sticking to nexus 4 for so many reasons one of them is stunning design with shiny both sides . front and back

Well for me its either stay with T-Mobile and get S4 or switch to ATT and stay with N4. I always thought ATT has ****ty coverage but its kinda funny that everywhere I go friends with ATT have service and I don't.
