Solid reasons to buy One and not S4

What you dont realize is that changes from 4.1 to 4.2 are mostly hidden......its security fixes, speed, battery improvements etc. My Gnex runs noticeably longer on 4.2 then it did on 4.1

That's kind of ambiguous... Are you saying lock screen widgets are negated by touchwiz?

I'm saying I prefer what I have on the lock screen in sense 5 than that sorry excuse for touch screen widgets on my Galaxy Nexus with 4.2.

So you personally don't like the option of lock screen widgets in 4.2 so therefore all changes made in 4.2 are negated?

If you don't like the lock screen widgets than just say that instead of trying to mislead people are further an agenda.

I really can not fathom walking around the whole day with an extra battery because the battery on your phone sucks. Yes. Travelling may require you to go with an extra battery. But. Guess what? That's why they sell external batteries. The point is that any battery or the batteries on the HTC one and S4 should be judge on using only one battery on a daily use and not if it's swap-able. FWIW....I had the S3 and never bought an extra battery. I had an external battery that I used for multiple devices and only used when travelling.

I see your points, but the biggest advantage of swappable battery is instant 0 -> 100%. Charging thru external battery takes long time and that One charges rather slowly doesn't help. I picked One over other phones for many reasons but think if One had a swappable battery, it would be a better phone for me.

That was a reason, not the reason. Also, lock screen widgets aren't an option.

I could make a list of the ways that skins make the differences between 4.1 and 4.2 irrelevant, but it's pretty evident in all versions of Android. Skins introduced folders, task managers, etc.

I have no agenda, I'm just citing that comparing Sense 5 to touchwiz based on the fact that they are different iterations of JellyBean is pointless.

In the end, swappable battery is a matter of personal choice that really has nothing to do with judging the battery.

As far as going from 0-->to 100%, yes, but you gotta walk around with an extra battery. The point being you *still* got to carry with you an external object (OEM battery or external one). And it really doesn't not take a long time to charge a battery with an external battery. Buy a good external battery. Know when to plug in you phone with the battery. And you get the added bonus that you can use the external battery to charge other electronic devices.

The way I see it, removable storage and swappable batteries will be extinct in just a few more generations. There's nothing wrong with preferring them, but everyone will need to adapt eventually.

I'm shocked they're not extinct now, to be honest.

Yeah I agree. There no real good reason to have the extra storage or a replaceable battery due to by now you should be able to buy the device with the storage amount already in the device. The battery should never be a issue and for most people should be able to get by for 2yrs until it is time for them to upgrade again so to me it's all a marketing tool they use to when in reality it does not really matter that much.

S4: Android OS, v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)
Android OS, v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean)

You make it sound like the HTC One is running Gingerbread or ICS. Both are running JB with the One running an earlier iteration of the JB.

The HTC One is launching running Android 4.1.2, and the software that I?ve been testing is the final build for the hardware I?m using. At some point in the future, the HTC One will get an update to Android 4.2.x, but at this point I can live with 4.1.x, and HTC says it went with 4.1 for both stability and time to market reasons, which I think is reasonable considering some of the 4.2.x issues people have complained about, though 4.2.2 fixes most of it. At this point it would be awesome to have 4.2, but for a smartphone the only features I miss are the notification shade settings and perhaps photosphere. I?m sure Google I/O will make me want whatever version of Android comes out there, but for now the HTC One running 4.1 isn?t a problem.

Is the audio quality really that different on the HTC One?

It is not comparable to any other phone. I have to have the volume at half most of the time or it is too loud. Sounds great, too. I have a Jawbone Jambox and see no reason to ever pair the One with it (the Big Jambox is another story...)

That's really interesting, i haven't had a chance to take a look at it but if the audio quality is significantly greater than comparable phones that would definitely make me want to take a closer look at the One.

I'm using an iPhone 4 now and upgraded to the iPhone 5 about 6 months ago but returned it because of wifi issues. I am seriously considering the One, but leaning toward the S4. I'm not trying to impress anyone with my phone, so looks aren't a big deal to me. I've not heard of any rampant issues with the plastic body breaking on the S3, I assume the S4 will hold up as well, so the aluminum body of the One is not really an advantage to me. Battery life is important to me and GSM Arena's comparison shows a significant advantage for the S4. I also like the fact that the S4 has a bigger screen in essentially the same size body. I am also a little concerned about the complaints I've seen about bluetooth problems with the One as I pair my phone with a portable speaker fairly often.

I'm going to wait a few weeks until after the S4 is out and see if any issues pop up that have not been uncovered by the early reviews before I make a final decision though.

That's a very good point! There were major stability issues with 4.2 when it was introduced. Hopefully, for those that choose the S4, those issues are resolved.

The fact that you are going to be using "audiophile" headphones means that the quality of the input that is driving those headphones is going to be even more important than if you were using cheap earbuds. And I can tell you that the Beats audio works exceptionally well with quality headphones. I know the Beats headphones are kinda a gimmick but the "Beats" audio in the HTC One really means that that the internal digital amplifier is powerful and will do your headphones justice. I'm not sure how the headphone audio quality will compare to the GS4 but compared to my GSII the One blows it away and is a main reason why I got this phone.
\

they did some lab testing, the gs4 actually has cleaner audio out of headphone jack unfortunately...

If no one else is going to mention it... What's with the new sense app drawer? From my limited time with the phone it drove me nuts. Do you people actually like it or is it just something you learn to live with? I don't put shortcuts on my home screens so I live by an easily accessible and organized app drawer.

Just an honest question from someone on the outside looking in
