Well, it was not a random 911 call. The user who tried it was trying to call 911 due to a fire incident in his place. He happens to be someone who knows tech and immediately recorded the video of OP5 rebooting.



Users are not stupid to call 911 simply to try it out but this is a critical feature that should work regardless.

I am glad OnePlus released a fix.

Hahaha, all your info is slightly wrong! The fire wasn't at his place, he just saw a building on fire and tried to do the right thing. And he didn't immediately record the video, he was later able to replicate the issue with a test call which is what he recorded. If you're gonna try to correct people, get your facts straight. And yes, we know now that this was legit, but my original comment, as I've said, was made when all the evidence that we had was basically "some guy said something on Reddit", and I never even said it was necessarily BS, just that we should take anything from Reddit as not necessarily being particularly reliable...

I'll respond to the second part of your comment in two parts:

1. Users may not be stupid enough to randomly call the emergency services, but why would that stop a troll from TRYING to get them to?

2. You claim users aren't stupid, that's true... For some users. Some users are incredibly stupid. Let's not forget many people flat out refused to obey the recall and held on to Note 7s until the bitter end... I bet there's still some out there now.

But that's all academic and your comment was largely pointless as I already said that I take it back and now think that people SHOULD believe everything they read on Reddit without question.

Since that polling of GPS is accessible to the emergency services, I do wonder about the security aspect of that functionality.
Is that functionality accessible to other numbers, even ones that phone you ?
Who determines, and how who can actually do that.

Maybe I'm fortunate but I have never had to call 911. I've called the police station before, car was broken into, but that wasn't a 911 emergency IMO.

I didn't even know something like this was possible.

Not a Qualcomm issue either. It's a combination of QC and OP's software that interacts with the modems, etc.

Other comments have suggested it isn't unique to the OP5, so I wonder who actually had to fix it.
Was it OP or Qualcomm, since either will come through the same route, an android update.
And will other affected phones get a fix.
