Someone please help me with the use of sd/sim cards for my moto G first gen (8 GB).

OK i have looked up many videos and searched the web but I am still left with the same question. I have a moto g first gen 8 GB ( I hope that is enough detail ). I have hardly any space on my phone. Their are two slots for mini sd cards or sim cards well I noticed they had plastic coverings where the cards went. And I can pop them in and out. Also inside is goldish metal, it doesn't seem that a card will fit. I do have a card and I am pretty sure that it is the right size, it seems to be the perfect width to fit but I don't want to force anything to cause damage. I feel a little bit stupid asking this but someone please help

Which Moto G model do you have? You can check that in settings - about phone. Some Moto G 1st gen models are dual SIM and those two slots can't be used for a SD card.
