Sony and The U.S.

Sony Financials Reveal Huge Loss, With More Expected - IGN

Made a small profit in 2013 only lose again in 2014. Like I said has been. Losing money year after year.

It is interesting to read and have sudden reactions to small time frames but with companies than span decades it is not a realistic outlook. In 1985 Sony stock was about $6 in 2000 it hit $149 and today $19. There was more than tens of billions in lose and gain along that time line but they still gained and are not going away just because the market has bumps in the road.

IGN sells news they don't report it. You reading that moved money somewhere.

Well, as soon as they start competing with Samsung then we can revisit this subject. Nobody is anxiously awaiting any product that SONY makes. The only electronics they have going for them is the PS4. It is probably the movie division the only thing keeping them afloat. They had their run , there in no denying that, but they are has beens. You want a phone try Samsung or Apple. You want a TV buy Samsung. Who cares about what they did in the past. Good luck waiting in line for the new WALKMAN.

Everything Samsung or Apple sells has Sony patents involved. Sony's patent portfolio alone will keep them a float. I have a feeling you really don't know your tech history so well. Sony has their hands in alot more than tech.

Yeah and the Ford Taurus USED to be the best midsize sedan. Are you even acknowledging what you are saying. I said that SONY is a "has been" meaning that they used to be dominant and they aren't anymore. You keep bringing up their past accomplishments which even further proves my point of them being a has been. smdh

Actually Sony was never dominant in any market so in your world I guess they are more a "never have been". The reality is Sony is an innovator and inventor and will continue to rise and fall long after we are dead.

To help you with language alittle so this kind of confusion is less likely. Coleco is a has been Sony is not. I understand you only care about you understanding what you mean but to communicate you have to make more sense to others. Your just saying they are not popular not out of business.

FYI: Sony has not been popular since 2004 so you are about a decade late to point it out now.

I believe the topic of the thread was about Sony phones. The losses Sony is taking as a company overall did not come from mobile or gaming, both of which saw an increase. I take it from the flavor of your replies that you don't like Sony phones? Maybe it would've been easier if you just say so.

Back to the OP, I feel your pain, the last two flagship Xperia phones pretty much checked every single one of my boxes for android smartphones too. It's just hard to swallow the fact that most carriers don't discount your monthly bill if you buy a phone at a full price unlocked which is basically what you'd have to do to own one in the US. But on the other hand, getting a new phone every year if you tend to be like a lot of us smartphone addicts rather than staying with most carriers' 2 year cycle is going to cost you as well so it wouldn't matter in that case.
If you're that into smartphones that it's a part of your tech hobby, I'd just write off the $700/year as the cost of enjoying your hobby.
