Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - can you stop apps screen menu bar automatically appearing?

Hi. I am seriously considering buying a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, but quite often the left hand side app options menu bar appears when I press the apps list button on the home screen. So the menu bar takes up two thirds of the screen, preventing me from seeing two thirds of the apps, and I have to wait for it to decide to hide itself again before I can select the app I want.

Is there a setting to make the apps menu bar only appear when I swipe it?

As far as I can tell, it only pops up of you Swype from the left edge pof the screen with the app drawer open, or if you Swype past the left most app drawer screen. I'm thinking either the phone you sampled has a problem or it's picking up your finger on the edge of the screen. I don't have the problem you speak of on my z3 or my gf's z3c.

Over the past few weeks I've been playing with a few different z3c in various shops. Have not been keeping track, but can definitely remember at least two phones doing this. The z3 I tried today did not do it.

A couple of shop staff had a go and the menu appeared for them too, so maybe not my technique? One possibly interesting thing is that the menu only appears on the first instance. But, after a few minutes, it must reset and the behaviour will occur again.

Since I have not found other reports of this issue with google, I wonder if it is because it is in some kind of demo mode in the shops?

Any chance you might describe in a bit more detail weekday you are doing at the time. I'd be happy to try and see if I can recreate it on our phones.

It was annoying me, too, so I just installed Apex launcher.

Sorry, not sure that there is much more detail that I can add.

It turns out that the Z3 uses the Nova launcher, and the Z3 Compact I guess is just standard. That is why they behave differently.

I now own a Z3C and, with the exception of the very first use, the menu bar only appears when requested.
