Don't they all have glass backs? They're just frosted glass now rather than the glossy finish (except for the premium). No fingerprints and better grip though.

NFC is confirmed. They talk about image stabilization, but they call it 'steady shot' which I think is software, not optical. Quick charge it says 'in select countries', not sure why it wouldn't be everywhere. Have heard nothing of IR, seems unlikely.

According the european prices announced, the Z5 will be $1000 Canadian. That is pretty damn expensive.... hopefully VAT is inflating that a lot!

O_o Please tell me the $1000 price tag is for the premium version, not the regular z5 or compact.

If the Z5 is anything more than say 600, I will pass.

Hi

I am waiting on the reviews and especially the claim of 2 day battery life.

My xperia-z2 has 3200 so at 2900mah it is bit of downgrade.

Hoping the software optimisation of the Snapdragon 810 is sorted.

The 2 day battery life was never actually accurate on any Xperia that made that claim. By 2 days what you actually got was more like not having to charge it until sometime the next morning or afternoon as opposed to nighttime the same day

Maybe if they added a 3500 mah battery we could have been on to a winner. We shall wait and see.

If it is alot worse than my xperia-z2 than I might consider the Moto x play which has some good reviews coming in for its battery life.

7-8 hours screen on time is standard for Moto X Play in my average use case. Though I'm thinking of switching to Z5 Compact because this is my first 5.5" phone and even though it has the smallest bezels in this size class, I still find myself somewhat missing the smaller form factor of my previous phones.

I was thinking just like you about the Play. Here's what made me reconsider:
Multiple reviews remarking on stutter/lag
Complaints in reviews of loose buttons and dust collecting between screen and chassis
lenovo completely fired the original moto software engineer team leaving the quality of future updates open to uncertainty.

Had to take the Play off my maybe list. Looking mainly at the Z5 and 2015 Nexus 5x now. Possibly the iPhone 6s+ too

That's interesting.

Anyways I will only reserve final judgement for z5 after the reviews come in. Hope it up to the task.

At least the initial hands on from multiple sites are showing they have resolved the heating issues found on the z3 and z3 plus especially recording in 4k.

Thanks syspry for your comments

Much appreciated 😀

Now that's the kind of screen time I would love on my smartphone. Reason why Moto x play was compelling as a upgrade.

That's not light usage either. WiFi on, 4G on, GPS on and screen brightness at 50% with adaptive enabled, which really likes to set max brightness when you're out and about in broad daylight. Heavy web browsing using Chrome over both WiFi and 4G, YouTube streaming, voice calling for over an hour, stuff like that. Basically, this phone is a battery beast.
