Sooo...How's the signal strength?

For people discussing 3g signal strength and comparing to their older phone it would be useful if you could post the dBm levels from ##DEBUG# for the phones you are comparing.

So far I love my SGII, but I noticed poor connections in some places that I had no issues before with the EVO 4G. One more thing to said, is that this Epic is not going back, the phone is super fast and responsive. :)

What I REALLY hate is the onscreen keyboard. I was trying to fill in a text field that was at the bottom of a web page, and the onscreen keyboard sat itself on top so there was no way to see what I was typing. And it keeps trying to change things like usernames into words. Grrr! Hopefully some of that is a "user education" issue. I am used to typing one-handed on the Pre. I'll have to see if I can still do that with the ET. The level of accuracy required for an on-screen keyboard is much higher because you can't feel your way along to the right key.

OK, that is what really has me worried....the keyboard thing. Has it gotten any better with another day under your belt? Is it possible to turn off that auto correct deal? I think that is going to make me crazy.:(

it used to be on the evo 4g, that you press the menu key and the kb would disapear, not on this phone :(

can someone please post actual dbm level comparisons between the epic 4g touch and other phones? specifically im trying to decide whether or not to take back my photon and get the samsung. if dbm levels on the sammy are similar to that of the photon, ill take the sammy any day.

Reception is one of my biggest concerns. My moPho slaughters any sprint phone I have owned in this department but I also am considering buying the SGSII if the reception is "as good" or "better" than the moPho. It just seems the moPho was a beta unit for the bionic and is buggier than a bug farm and I don't appreciate participating in a game I never wanted to play.

Dealing with bugs is a part of having Android. All of the new devices come with bugs out of the box. You have to stick it out through the updates. As long as there aren't any hardware issues, I wouldn't worry too much.

EGS2 Radio is Better then my EVO 4G and EVO 3D :)
Radio is rock solid Samsung & Sprint finally got it right
We have two EVo 4G's, 2 EPic 4g's, and 1 Palm Pre.

The Epic 4G signal strength is dramatically better than any of the others.

I have tested outdoors, indoors, basement, etc. Also the Epic 4G Touch is much more willing to roam over onto Verizon (free on Everything plans). The Bluetooth also locks onto my car when it is in the driveway and I am inside!

Please post side-by-side dBm levels. You can see the dBm in menu->settings->about phone->status

Regarding roaming, once you get the latest PRL from Sprint, it'll disable all Verizon 3G roaming, only 1x.

Had the photon and now the sgs2, I returned the photon. I get the same dbm anytime. I know my room is a bunker and I get the same signal with the sgs2 that i did with photon.

Sorry you have to go with my word. I dont have the photon anymore. I exchanged it to get the samsung.

I have latest PRL and yesterday i was indeed roaming with 3g??

I am out on the beach in Plymouth MA and we have both an EVO 4G and an Epic Touch side by side (actually about 2' apart).

Epic Touch is showing -65 dBm and the EVO 4G is showing -85 dBm

Just went to the sprint store and did a side by side signal comparison of my photon vs. the epic 4g touch. Here are the results:

epic 4g touch: -76 dbm
photon: -81 dbm

Honestly, they are probably very very similar. I'm not saying this is a definative test by any means, but it makes me feel better about taking the photon back for the GSII.

On a couple other notes, the GSII had noticably lower resolution, but better color saturation than the photon.

There are repeaters installed in the sprint stores that is not the best place to be testing out signals

Given that nkd was testing phones side by side in this case, I think the repeaters are a bit of a moot point, here, especially because we're testing two phones drawing from the same signal source.

Now, had we drawn conclusions that, say, a Sprint phone performed better than the Verizon phone in the Sprint store, that's a different story....

I guess what I was trying to say that it is hard to compare signal strength in full coverage areas. The real test comes to play in the fringe areas

Evo -98 to -101 dBM Epic touch -103 dBm to -106 dBm and Disconnecting :( REally love this phone but its a useless paperweight at my workplace with this signal. Im getting 120ms 600kb download 68kb Upload on evo and 700ms 120kb downlooad and 23kb Upload, on this weak signal.. It Does change though once im in a good tower range, the Epic comes out ahead.
