Ok So I am considering selling my evo 3D for one reason and that is that I cant hear my notifications and I am always missing them. The speaker also sounds distorted on speaker phone.

Someone told me that this was due to the drivers and that if I rooted to clean rom and added Beats Audio that it would fix my problem completely.

Is this true? Or will this phone always be quiet? Also how would a different driver fix the distortion in the speaker when its loud??

I can tell you that in my experience CleanROM in conjunction with the Volume+ Sound Boost app improved the sound a lot.

the volume+ is that free? Or do you have to buy the paid one for it to really work?....how much louder is it? Do you still have distortion? Do you have beat audio?

Does anyone have the beat audio ad on? Does it really work?

I am a chronic ROM flasher so at the moment I am using Nocturnal Xplod, which comes with Beats audio and equalizer with custom presets like Rock, Pop, etc. Yes, in my opinion it does sound a lot better. As for Volume + Sound Boost, I downloaded it from the developer's site a while back. There is a paid version on the Market but I don't know how it differs from the one from the dev's site.

When I was using CleanROM, I had a Beats audio hack that I downloaded and flashed separately that worked well.

In both instances I didn't experience any distortion. Be careful with Volume + though and don't increase the sound too much. There is actually a warning about that.

As to whether it is worth rooting for, I guess that is subjective. You may hear mine and think it sounds like crap when I think it sounds great. I enjoy rooting and modding my phones so it was worth it to me.

Thank you Carrie....basically i just want my phone to be faster, a bit louder, and improve battery life.

So maybe unlocking at the HTC site and rooting to Clean Rom I can do all of this.

I believe you will be very pleased with the results. CleanROM is great... everything works and it is very smooth. As for Xplod, it is a great ROM but requires that you flash a different kernel like mwalt or tiamet for working MHL. There is a thread with instructions on how to unlock, root and install recovery and CleanROM on hboot 1.5 that has helped a lot of people. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress :)
