Sound still coming out of speaker

With Bluetooth connected, I have two sets one earbuds and one over the ear, both are Skull Candy (inked and hesh 3), I'm still getting notification sounds through the speaker on the phone, anyone know why? It's more of an irritant than a big issue, but it's the reason I use Bluetooth, don't want to bother others. Any help would be great, thanks.
