Anybody have experience with both companies with previous phones? Having a hard time deciding which to get...

Otterbox Commuter has an emphasis on protection, but candyshell is more about the style than protection. So, the answer can be depending on what you look for the most from the case. I care more about style, so I would choose candyshell, but I bet so many people like commuter :)

I think The candyshells look really good on a smaller phone like the Iphone, but for the S3 I just don't think they look as good. Their cases are a little overpriced for the protection you get, but if you're not too worried about dropping your phone then they keep your phone looking pretty sleek and attractive. So as stated above more for looks and less for protection.

I like that the candyshell has a softer internal structure, surrounded by a hard shell, in a pretty slim form factor that still covers all edges and corners. I used to think they were just a hard case, but just recently saw a Speck iPhone case in the store and noticed it was two layers, soft in/hard out, made me rethink. It really seems like a viable case to me, now.

I had a Candyshell for my old iPhone 3g and loved it. The one thing, however, is that the rubber that covered the power button permanently smooshed in the button so it is only slightly raised now. It was difficult to push the buttons with the case on, too. Great cases, but something to be wary of!

I have a speck candyshell on my Droid Incredible and my wife has one on her iphone 4s and both love them. My brother in law has the commuter.

The one thing I like about the speck over the otterbox is that it is one piece versus two. I have dropped my Droid Incredible many times and I have two small kids that chuck it around regularly and it holds up/protects well.
I plan to get a speck case for my gs3 when it gets here.

As for price they are the same price as a commuter case from what I have seen.

Ugh, still a tough choice. Ive heard great things about an incipio case they sell at the t-mobile store I might end up getting as a placeholder before more reviews start flowing in though. Seems like you can't lose with either case with basic drop protection, and if that's the case, I'd opt for the slimmer profile of the candyshell

i have bought the incipio 'ngp' cases since they started making them.... They are lightweight, provide solid protection, don't crack or damage (basically ageless), and are relatively inexpensive at $20... Never turning back... ;)

Keep in mind the Otterbox Defender is thinner from what I understand!

Either you understood wrong or you're misinformed or both, lol!

From what I SEE on their site, the commuter DOES look A LOT thinner than the Defender case. Just look at the side view! Hey, I could be wrong though since I don't have first hand experience with either case! I'm still willing to bet against you though, lol! :)

The commuter is a step down from the Defender in terms of protection.

I have used the OB defender on most of my devices. Main difference between the commuter and defender is that the defender has one extra layer of protection and comes with a belt ratcheting holster.

I had the commuter, but found it ruined the sleekness. Great protection though.

Now I use the invisible shield, which is great. You can barley notice its there but it's already saved me from a couple of scratchs

Commuter is way thinner than the defender, i've had it since it was released. Power button bein a little tite to push is my only complaint. Looks nice on the phone
